Default Removing Air from PS

How do you remove air from the PS?

My PS is making noise and hard to turn. My reservoir has bubbles in it.

Thanks!

Have you cleaned the P/S Filter located in the bottom of the Power Steering reservoir? There have been numerous threads on this topic over the last two months on this.
Your pump is cavitating, whipping the fluid into a froth because the reservoir isn't supplying the fluid fast enough.

If everything were normal, the fluid would self-purge with every pass thru the reservoir. There is no convient purge valve. Sorry

bottom of the reservoir?

I only see tubes. 1 going thru the PS and the other one goes thru the bottom of the reservoir.

when I'm reving it there is assist but thats it, I even tried topping it off but the fluid is just going out.

Do I need to take out the PS fluid, remove the reservoir to clean the filter?

Is this underneath the reservoir attached to it or this is a separate filter?

The filter is incorporated in the body of the Power Steering Resorvoir in the vicinity of the low pressure hose connection (the one which runs to the suction side of the pump). In most cases, it's visible thru the filler neck once the fluid's drained. It's non removable in most applications.

Servicing it will require
1) removing the reservoir to gain accessability and make it easier to work on.
2) White Gas or other suitable solvent. Spray Brake Cleaner can help things along and does great on cleaning up after.
3) A pale or other suitable container to allow it to soak
4) Compressed air for stuborn cases.

Once it's soaked for awhile, backflushing thru the low pressure hose fitting usually gets things moving. It may take a day or two (once you've cleared the blockage) for the fluid to clear.

I remove the reservoir and drain my fluid again and the filter is clean. No blockage or dirt.

The thing is bubbles are visible inside the reservoir.

Might it be a faulty PS?

Here's what I did this morning change my oil and retighten all the bolts in the PS coz. there are leaking.

Is it possible that I overtighten it and for some reason there is a hairline crack or something that air is coming thru?

I have a spare PS that I replace coz. the pulley broke in the first place and I put that old one back and same problem whining noise and no PS.

PS only when I rev the car thats it.

When I remove one of the hoses from the PS to the reservoir there is fluid coming out. alot not like there is restriction.

Has this condition been going on for long??
It sounds like you have a low pressure condition here; either caused by blockage (as discussed earlier) a pin hole on the suction side hose drawing air in, a worn pump shaft bearing seal or there is some internal damage in the pump itself. Unless you ran it completely dry for a long period of time the rack should be ok. The only place air could get into the system will be on the suction side of the pump & system.

Nope, like I said did oil change this morning decided to tighten the bolts of the PS coz. its leaking. When first time starting car after oil change this whining noise appear and no PS.

Thanks anyways I'm going to try to swap out old parts from previous PS that I had laying around and see if that works if not I'll go the junkyard and get me one until I have the $$$ to get a new one.

I somewhat fixed the problem.

I ended up tearing the whole PS apart and cleaned it with a brake cleaner but the noise is still there but I have PS.

I do not know why everytime I turn the wheel left or right full turn the whole car is vibrating.

Any idea, any future problems I might get into?

After this one, geez I wonder whats next? After you fixed something another problem shows up no matter how carefull you are with the car.

The noise should subside as the fluid purges the remaining air. On the vibration... the belt may have to be retightened or sometimes one of the hoses can jump around under full pressure.
