Default ..:WELZ's RHD EF teardown and rebuild!:..

Hello Honda-Tech! Been working on this for over a year now. My job means i get very little time/money to allow me to work on my car, so im taking my time with it, attempting to do things properly!

Started of by picking up this 16i16 (similar to your Si, but with the DOHC a9 engine) for $1k. Preety clean and ran well, but up close the body work needed alot of attention!

Strip down....

Sounded deadening FTL!!!

Out came the D16

Collection of parts began.. SiR front end..

SiR Rear...

SiR Spoiler..

D2's

Honda Jazz (Fit) washer jets!

Braided lines to go with my EF9 262mm setup. The 16i16 comes with rear discs stock.

Then picked up its new heart...

Then after trawling the web, started to find a few bargins, a genuine top fuel intake (needed a new filter though)

Front camber adjusters to go in my OEM top arms

Spoon style mirrors

New rear arches to replace my rotton ones!

Through the summer, i was struggling for someone to take on the project of preping and spraying the whole car!

So while i was waiting i decided to prep the engine bay myself...The bay was smoothed and all offending items which wern't going to be used grinded off!

My dad removing some offending items!

Grinding out the spot welds

Removing fuel filter bracket (wont bed needing this with my new setup!)

Removed all the excess seam sealer, and smoothed over all the spot welds

More parts turned up while i was waiting...

J's Racing style front lip! These are Uber rare in the UK! Only 3 over here!

ITR Master Cylinder

Remote battery terminals...

ITR Shift boot

Then it finally got collected pimp my ride style and got whisked away to Wrightons body shop in Redditch!

This then gave me chance the clean they engine up before the shell came back..
With a bit of help, managed to get it up on the engine stand.

Gave it a dremel and laid down some primer.

Painted

Also recieved my Exedy stage 1 kit.

Exedy lightened flywheel, energy suspension bushings. PWO ecu with a custom map inc launch control, shift light, vtec moved to 5300rpm etc, some mugen numberplate bolts and a few skunk2 parts..

Ordered some fresh decals..

I then recieved a big order from stateside! First big thanks to Summit Racing for the Battery relocation kit! Very good quality, and top service!

The my bits came in from Weksos Industries..
Then weksos came in..Koyo full legth twin core Aluminuim Radiator.

Hasport conversion mounts

Skunk2 Gearknob and short shifter kit

Cusco lower arm bar

Sourced some wind deflectors from a company in Germany! Very good quality, as good as the OEM ones ive seen.

And some VT dials so my RPM's will be correct! Check out the mileage!

I then got some pictures from the bodyshop...

And the colour im going for....Java Black pearl taken from an 04 Subaru Impreza STi..

I love the colour and think it will suit the EF down to the ground!

And after paint..

Engine bay..

Weather sucked... was hoping for some sunshine so i could show you the bronze in the paint! Looks amazing!

And got started fitting my coilovers...
Before....Filler dust FTL

After

Shitty picture of underneath. Couldn't get back far enough as the integra was in the way

I was then on the lookout for a roll cage. After searching i came up with this...

6 point OMP cage, with optional weld on door bars!

I refurbed some old RAZO pedals i had lying around..

Spoon Rad cap was ordered as the OEM one was too small!

Summit also came in again

Inside....

Inside was my new fuel setup. Will eliminate the stock filter and the masses of crap which comes with it. Not good for a tucked bay.

Flywheel was fitted..

Along with Clutch and the new release bearing..

Quickly tried the box on to make sure everything was aligned 100%

And later that week was dropped into the shell! along with my new hubs and coilovers! Its slammed [smilie=ohmy.gif]

Recieved my Recaro Pole Positions, Schroth Harness' and Momo wheel with snap off boss...

A 5zigen 4-2-1 Manifold turned up, which fits like a dream!

Managed to find an Access Dash mat <!-- s:twisted: --> so snapped it up!

And a cusco rep brake master cylinder brace found its way in the post! <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: -->

Installed the Koyo rad!

Then on Tuesday i recieved some more goodies!!

Didn't have much time, but i couldnt leave without opening some <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: --> to give me some inspiration!

However i still appeared to have a problem with the rad! Can also spry my new hardware!!

So the angle grinder made another appearance! lol!

12'' Spal fan turned up in the morning...So the rad came back out of the car.

Mounted onto the rad and fixed in...

Back in the car, no more clearance issues <!-- s:D --><!-- s:D -->

Also managed to get the rad fixed in with the oem brackets either side! <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: --> Plus a close look at the hardware im using!

Got some supplies!

Also picked these up for cheap...

Sprint Hart CPs and some extended lug nuts. Tried them on the car for size!

I decided to test fit the Top Fuel intake to see what size filter i could get away with using.

However i ran into a problem...

It didnt fit, do to me using an ITR master cylinder and booster =(

So i was now on the look out for another intake. I remembered looking on the EF Honda site, and seeing someone using an ITR setup. So after looking at a few pics the search was on!

On Friday the following turned up...ITR intake

And some Spoon filtration!!

Mocked up to see what needs chopping off and how it should look like when its in...

Then received my exhaust system.

Preety chuffed with it! Looks really well made :D

Also picked these up for RWYB...

They'll be going on my 2 RC Starks! They need a refurb before i put them on though.

Got my fuel line done.

90 Degree bend in the fuel rail sorted.

-6 an adaptor onto the hardline

-6 an fuel hose cut to correct length and assembled to 90 degree bend and a summit racing fuel filter.

And hey presto!

Also went to fit my 02 sensors and realised the thread on one of them was completely shagged

So purchased x2 universal one wire lambda sensors.

Mocked up where my injector resistor box, sensors and vac lines are gonna go. Need to paint the resistor box and make an extra bracket first though. (And clean the fecking subframe, pictures make the car look filthy =( ) From up top you cant see them at all though, nicely hidden from view!

Also today, these landed on my desk from Startins Honda. Wasn't expecting them as i hadn't even ordered them, just enquired about the price lol!

What the hell are they??

Arh yes...

All about attention to detail!!

Then i got the car up in the air and got the wheels off...

Had the tyres taken off the sprint harts and dropped them, along with a few other parts over to my mate Alex's!

Alex will be refurbing them for me over the next week or so. Few pics from today.

In the Sandblaster...

Few of you may have spyed the other things im getting done at the same time! Not going to tell you what colour they're gonna be untill theyre done though!

Undersealed the rear of the car...

Then put my exhaust system on...

Got my wheels finished!

They have been power coated (Not very well :? ) chrome silver. Which is basically just a really shiney silver lol! At certain angles they look fully polished though :D

Reflection!

And here you can see how bad the power coat is.

Not very good, but considered it cost me nothing, they will do for the time being!

Got my tyres back on. Make the wheels look alot better imo!

Got a new rear lower brace, as the one i had for an EK didn't fit lol!

And got another jdm y0! part for what its worth lmao!

And finally i picked these up last weekend! The only 2 in England!

The EF9 one will be fitted to my car, and the EF3 will be going on a buddies 16i16!

Hope you all like so far, would love to know what you think! Adam

Yeh, hence why I said 'Fairly commen up here'

Yeah, I sold Kryton the EF9, I had the car for a while and done pretty much most of the work to it. He just fitted plastic windows and got rid of the ABS. Its fairly rough tbh, not a very good example, but its a fun car :-)

There are two other track real deal EF9's in Scotland too!

lol i wern't been funny? I just meant i know about all you ballers in Scotland haha!

Down here in the Midlands theres only the one EF9 which has been riced out and a small number of EE9's, one of them being my mates whos done a B20 vtec conversion. Nothing else to compare my car against really

Yeh Kryton posts on 4guk, so i read his updates etc!

Did you sell the DA in the end?

I still have the DA6, im still in two minds whether to sell it.. When I put it up for sale, I never had much interest in it! Not a lot of people know what it is really!

I am considering keeping it and taking it to the next stage! We'll see tho! hah. Were you at JAE? I had it on show there!

I'd say your EF is going to be one of, if not the best in the UK! Some very trick parts going on it and your taking your time not rushing it! I like that!

Good luck with the project!

P.S. I have a JDM honda access optional extra for the EF9 civic, if your interested? Its a personal 'non-smoking' box. It replaces your ash tray. It is lined in red velvet effect material with a non smoking sticker on it. Its pretty cool! PM me if you want pics or whatever!

When I saw this title I thought it was going to be another California kid with an unnecessarily low show car, looks like this will actually get used though!

I had that same fuel filter and it almost cost me a motor, it flows fine at idle but wouldn't flow enough at full throttle. I might have had a defective one, but youy might want to check it out.
