Rear wiper in 88 STD hatch
Has anyone tried installing rear wiper in his/her STD? I wanna give it a shot as it bothers me not to have one...
Parts collected so far for the project: rear wiper arm and motor, spray nozzle and required hoses, reservoir with 2 pumps.
A few things I don't know about are: where in ef hatch is the switch for rear wiper and how is the washer actuated (a picture would be great if anyone has one handy)? What additional wiring is required and where? I know these are two most difficult things to figure out. Thanks for your input.

washer is actuated from the regular winshield washer wand. its a big center piece on the wand itself. it turns like the one for the winshield. just like the front, turn it one way for spray, the other for it to move.
I feel good about this. Thanks jhammond_82.
What do you mean by "Stalk"?
Ok, google is my friend too... got it. Had no idea that this was called stalk. Well, I picked those up for the intermittent wipers. Now I am just going to go back to the junk yard and trace the wire. This may be the first time when having a gutted out civic proves beneficial... It is easy to see where everything else is...
Thanks guys.

Another question before I spend hours at the junk yard. Would you happen to know if STD hatches are wired already for rear wiper. By that I mean: wires to the rear wiper motor, wires to the stalk, and wires from reservoir pump.
I think I am gonna do a little write up if I succeed. Chances are someone will find it useful.
Later.

I don't know if it's the right connector/wires but on my Std, the connector for the hatch has a couple of unused wires. If it those are the correct wires, then you would need the hatch harness too for a clean install. I'd imagine just using the whole hatch would be easier.

Little update. Good news is that the original body harness (ONLY the section that goes from the rear of the hatch to the fuse box area) includes necessary wires for the wiper motor (GRN, LT GRN/BLK, GRN/BLK).
That leaves me with running wires between the rear connector and wiper motor (pretty much need to rewire the hatch), between the stalk and connector below fuse box, and between the new pump and...
... here comes the bad news. I must've clipped a wrong wire at the junk yard and now I cannot figure out where does the pump get its power from. There is an open terminal somewhere with the GRN/BLK wire and I cannot find it. Obviously it has to be down from the fuse box, but where. As soon as connect the missing wire with the stalk - it will all be done!
Does anyone have an idea which connector power is coming from? Thanks

Well, it has taken me longer than I anticipated, and I am still not done yet. Update:
Hatch harness has been redone and installed; it looks pretty stock now.

I also started learning Adobe Illustrator, and came up with this diagram for the hatch harness:

This may not be the most popular thread but I am hoping that someone will notice it anyway. People, I need some help here. I forgot to take a couple of measurements while at the junk yard and my donor was already turned into razor blades.
Here is a favor I am asking of you:
Can someone with either DX or Si with a rear wiper measure the location of the wiper motor hole center? I mean the spot where it goes through the hatch. I think I can get away with 2 dimensions: from a top/bottom of metal filler that hole is drilled through, and from the edge of Honda "H" emblem.
Another pickle is a location of a rear sprayer nozzle. I already forgot where it was, would you be so kind and take a picture, and/or some measurements to better locate this thing.
I really appreciate your help, guys and gals. Good luck with your projects.

Awesome! Thank you, Sinepome! I think I will get out of bed now to get started. Would you willing to do the same for the sprayer nozzle? Thanks so much.
the sprayer is in the wing i think. to tell you the truth mine quit working and i just havent been worried about it. but there is a hole in the wing that i believe is it. but i couldnt get my tape measure under it to measure. it is pretty much right above the motor hole.
interesting! i was looking for a write up like this!
i went to a junk yard, got the whole hatch, and the stalk. i just need the wiring harnesses. but i am unsure of which ones they are that plug into the back of the fuse box!
can you help me with that?
like, i got the wiring harness for the hatch mostly out, i just dont know which ones to unplug or clip from the fuse box. same with the stalk.

Cool, it is good to know I am not the only one who is crazy enough to tackle this. As far as wiring under the dash - I got this solved but I did not have a chance to write it up. Are you installing washer as well?
Ok, little update. Almost done with second portion of a diagram - stalk to harness/washer motor. Take a look at attached PDF. I skipped most of the irrelevant wires going in and out of the plug. Some pictures coming soon.

Hold your horses! 2 pictured plugs are already there, all you need to do is to run wires from them to the switch, and from a switch to the rear washer motor/pump. There is only a couple of ground terminals: one from washer pump to the engine bay ground, and second from switch to the ground by steering column (it is the shortest one to get to).
Plug that you may not have but definitely need is the one that connects to stalk (5 wires).
P.S. Are you swapping entire hatch door, or just taking harness out of it? If you are your job in the back is already done, assuming that you disconnected the harness and not cut it off from the body.
Are you able and wolud you be willing to take some pictures for me? Thanks.

i'm resurrecting this thread...
planning on doing this to my 88 std, i have a doner car that im going to swap the rear hatch and it has all the parts to complete this task.
here comes the questions:
did you ever complete the rear wiper add-on?
do you have to swap the fuse box?
did you have to run wires to the washer fluid bottle?
thanks,
Lam

LOL, I actually enjoyed re-reading this thread. The questions I have asked!!!
Here is what I remember from the project (yes, I am on my 3rd consecutive hatch).
I did a very basic installation, and I know it worked, however:
- I do not recall using washer fluid because that would require a reservoir with dual pump (so you may want to ****** that one from your donor car as well, along with all the hose you will need).
- There was no need for the fuse box replacement, however you may need to grab the control unit (gray box with letter B, this is a must have if you are doing intermittent front wipers as well).
- As far as wiring goes, if there was no pump at the res, chances are, there was no wires leading to it, you will need to check it on your harness.
That second wiring diagram I posted above is pretty decent and should be self explanatory.
Let me know how it went, and I might still be able to help you if you have more questions.
