Icon6 b20vtec trouble....

yea i recently bought another project it is a 91 si hatch with a b20v...i bought it from a guy he supposedly said it only needed a head gasket..since it was my friends friend i didnt check it out i just bought it ...now to the point

first of all its a b20b with a 89 b16 head new valve springs and retainer and freshly resurfaced..

i put the head gasket on ( i made sure it was the right way) and started it up..the problem is i have all kinds of blow by coming for the valve stem on the valve cover.. i tested the compression and its fine all across except for cylinder number 3 (which was 75)..im just wondering if it is the valves, valve stem seals, or piston rings..or if any body has had this problem ..wat did it turn out to be???...

do another compression test on the offending cylinder and drop like a tablespoon of oil down in through the spark plug hole. if compression jumps up significantly then you know the rings are fried. if it doesn't change all that much then you know most likely there is a valve leaking. do a cylinder leakdown test and see if you hear the air leaking out the intake or exhaust to determine which pair of valves the air is getting past.

yea i don't see how you'd be able to isolate the problem if the cylinder head is removed from the block...
