Default B18a obd0 swap in 88 Crx dx, actually started...

just finished dropping in a b18a obd0 into my 88 crx dx, and bought a stock harness because my previous one was chopped up to pieces. converted from dpfi to mpfi, damn it was semi easy. took a while, but got it at last. filled radiator with water, made sure engine and tranny had oil. started it up, and wouldn't start. had spark but no fuel. then after an hour of looking, i forgot that i unplugged the fuel pump when i was doing the rear disk brake conversion. engine started up, idle'd pretty well actually. i had to do a ghetto rig for the map sensor because it took me an hour to find the plug for it. i will finish wiring up this weekend. i have a few questions before this car can be finished.

1) i will be trying to state ref the car, so will need all emission equipment on the engine. many wires had to be extended to accommodate the b18a. i could not find the plugs for the two valves next to the map sensor on the stock b18a. they are located on the firewall near the intake manifold, but i could not find the plugs for the two canister valves.
:may have fixed this problem. wiring on passenger side is for one of the valves, and had to wire the other one myself to A10 on ecu.

2) DA integra rear disk brakes on the crx. don't have access to Si e-brake cables. i would like to drive the car a little before i look for them. i was told that there is enough line on the DA e-brake cables to make a loop so it will work in the crx. i'm assuming i can hide the loop on top of the gas tank?

3) Fan isn't turning on. Had car running for a while and fan never turned on. May have a wiring problem. either that, or maybe car is simply just not hot enough? last resort, will wiring fan up directly to a switch. not running a/c fan as a/c was taken out.

thanks for looking.

update: found answers and fixed some stuff.

forgot to mention there is a surge when i step on the gas. im sure it is related to the code 14.

surge is related to code 14 most likely which is iacv (behind im)
check your wiring if wired direct should be black/yellow if I remember right @ ecu a11?
rear disk not sure on that e brake cable...

I am using the avid setup now on cable and like it real solid...

still need help. most importantly, the two vacuum solenoids on the firewall, one is the evap purge, the other is the fuel pressure cut. i don't see any left over wiring that will fit the plug on those two valves. im not too worried about the rear brake lines, as i will try it myself to see if it will work. also, the shift linkage isn't a problem. i tried cleaning the IACV valve a little bit, and even tried swapping the wires to it, but it is still throwing code 14 and surges and bogs when i rev up the motor. i will take it off again, and clean it up real good.

one quick note, i replaced the head gasket, as the motor previously had coolant in the oil after i replaced the water pump. i didn't see anything wrong with the old head gasket, but replaced it anyways and used some copper gasket spray on the new head gasket. engine was running for maybe 15 minutes, and noticed "some" condensation under the oil cap. hopefully it is from the coolant splashing into the oil wells when i had the head off.

edit: seems like i may have found the answer to the wiring for the two solenoids. i'll see how it goes.

I thinks its your ecu. My swap was the same thing. surging idle and i switched out 2-3 IAVC and still same thing. I threw in my pm6 (91 civic si) ecu in and it was quiet. If you have extra ecu try it out first before going out and buying a IACV

tried an obd1 iacv valve, even though only one bolt hole lined up. i used a little gasket maker to seal it. plugged it in, and still had code 14 and the surge. it seems like i may have found the right wires for the two solenoids, so only real problem left is the idle air control valve. will clean it real good one of these days. i'm hoping it's not the ecu, as everything was fine in the previous car.

I think i might have a extra IVAC for obd0. I got to look for. You are from Fresno- right. I can give it to you if you need it.

yeah, im in fresno. well, clovis actually, but still same pretty much. i realized that there was no change in idle when i unplug the iacv plug. so i'm guessing it is a wiring issue. on thursday, i will wire direct to the ecu to see if it goes away. i'm guessing one of the wires to the plug is bad.

update. fixed the code 14, iacv problem. i ran a wire direct from the orange wire to the ecu at pin A11. code is gone and engine idles and revs fine now.

gonna be working on the rear e brake cables, and the exhaust. got some tips from someone about stuff to do before even attempting to state ref the car. a few was to make sure all wiring is taped up or heat shrinked, and must have the crunchy plastic wire covers to make it look as stock as possible. he even told me that they may cut a piece of the wiring, to make sure the same color wires are used, such as when adding vtec and knock sensor??? anyways, will update as more stuff is finished.
