Valve Cover Question
regular automotive paint,1200,1500,2000grit sandpaper(wet sanding) sandblaster or aircraft stripper, primer, beer and patience! its not hard at all!
make sure you clean it with soap and water(before you strip the paint and after you strip the paint)
then primer (let it dry for 10 mins at least)
paint 2-3coats (spray at least 1 1/2ft away) let it dry for 24hrs
wet sand 2000grit
clear coat and re sand
take a break, step back and appreciate!

Lets see if i can add my .02 cents.
Exactly what he said^
I tend to add these steps in between. I clean valve covers first with purple degreaser w/ wire brush. Then clean again with tide w/bleach. Then clean with an automotive silicone remover.
Automotive painting = 90% prep + 10% application
