Funny that this subject came up.... one of my PIAA's just went out after 2 -3 yrs of usage... too poe to get HID's. Was thinking of the catz aswell, but don't know if I wan to spend the money again. The PIAA's are really nice though...
What are some good ones that are close to HID but don't burn out the friggin connector?
Peace,
Larkin

Yup, OEM Acura HID's made by stanley. Those were off a CL Type S. You like?

the deal is that normal bulbs use a filament wire going accross. this heats up, and cools down when the bulb is on/off. this causes a problem since theres a connection that keeps heating up cooling down, it will, eventually, break.
now the more wattage you throw thru the filament, the more prone it is to break. heat = causes items, including filaments to break/warp.
so for like the cheap 15 dollar HID look bulb or the expensive piaa super ultra neon plasma bulb running at 100watts, or 120watts, the life span is short.
the reason HID's are so bright and use 35 watts (less than the standard 55 w bulb) is because its a entirely different way of creating light. using a huge capacitor (the ballasts) it literally throws sparks of electriciy accross the arcs of the bulbs. notice that the hid bulbs do not have a filament, instead 2 points where the light travels accross. this is why hid bulbs can produce the amount of light they do and still outlast normal halogen bulbs.
and for 300 dollars for the cheapest of the cheap hid kits, i think it would be a worthwhile investment, even if money is a huge issue. the $100+ for the piaa bulbs that look like HID but are much duller than HID is just not worth it.
really? I remember reading on vtec.net that a cheap mod for lights is to get the 9006 and remove one of the pins so it fits in the low beam spot, and you have highbeam bulbs in for low beam bulbs. I could have mixed the numbers around though.
Are you using those bulbs on your JDM front?
