90' Prelude Si 2.1L DOHC Header?
I'm gonna buy a 90' Black Prelude Si 2.1L DOHC within the next couple days for $575. It has 217k on the engine and runs great. I'm gonna do some major restoration maintenance to the engine to get it running as close to new as possible. Anyway i was looking around for some mild modifications for it and i was unable to find a cheap header that works with the 2.1L engine. I was wondering where i could find a header for it that's as cheap as civic, prelude, s2000 headers and also i'm looking for a high flow cat resonator that's straight thru. Also what other cars aftermarket header would work with this engine? I think Honda CR-V uses the b21 correct? Any other cars with the b21? Anyway thank you and i'm soo excited to get this car. I've owned 2 preludes so far and atleast a dozen other hondas so far. I had a 88' S prelude when i was in high school and i bought an 89' Si 4WS with a blown engine that i was gonna swap something into but never got around to it. Anyway also i really want to put a D16Y8 in this car. What is required to do so?
no other header other than the prelude b20 and b21 will work
go over to www.preludepower.com
thay have a good 3rd gen group
there are a few options on headers

a d16 is gonna require a **** ton of custom stuff. 3rd gen preludes could go b20 and b21 w/o mounts (maybe an h22???). anything else needs cutsom engine mounts which would be as readily available as say EG mounts are
if you want new motor atleast go b series
if you want new motor atleast go b series
i agree...a d16 wouldn't be completly usesless however with the cheapnest and availability of non-vtec b series motors it wouldn't be practical...ive seen quite a few 3rd gen preludes with GSRs in them...u might want to look into that...or just stick for a b20 from a crv scince u already have a tranny for it
Yeah well i'm looking to go with a vtec engine and i see d16y8's all the time on craigslist for like $300-400 so i figured i'de swap it in for less than a grand or so. Would that be possible? How much would it typically cost to swap the d16 into my prelude? Yeah the d16 may make less power, but it feels and performs much stronger than the b20, b21 non-vtecs since it pulls to 7200rpm or so and the b21 makes it power at 5800rpm. It seems really slow compared to a mildly modified d16 VTEC engine. Also parts are super cheap for the d16s. I have a header, intake, and high flow cat sitting in my garage waiting to be installed.
A D16 into a 3G Lude would be a pretty custom job. If you can weld/have a welder and have wiring & fab skills it can be done. How much would it cost, like to pay someone would be more than it would be to buy a EG and take it from there. I guess you like the look of that Lude they are sexier than a EG...
