Default Dyno Tuned my car

Went to DSR today to Dyno tune my car.

I have a 2000 Integra GS-R with:

Skunk2 Stage 1 Cams
Skunk2 Cam Gears
VAFC
AEM CAI
DC 4-1 Header
B&M FPR

Baseline run: 150.8wHP 103.1 lbs of Torque

With all that stuff I get power LOWER than stock?!

(I think to myself, Maybe because I need tuning)

After adjusting cam gears and Vafc settings for a little, I get:

158.6wHP 111.4 lbs of Torque

We only had time to run the car 3-4 times on the dyno, so I know we needed more tuning time... but still, i thought these numbers were alot lower than what I should've gotten.

Lawrence at DSR said it is because the car is HOT. They broke their Dyno Fan today so we ran my car at 97 degrees with no fan, so I guess it was pretty damn hot.

I guess i need more tuning time...

that does suck man. I say u go back and get a couple of runs for free if u can just to get closure ya know. Cuz u should def be putting down better #s. Good luck.

oh yea, did it feel a lot stronger after installing the cams? then after tunning?

Yea, the heat will hurt you numbers. When I dynoed my car in the spring I was getting low 160s with my mods (This was after about 20 runs). Then the dyno computer took a dump and was down for a 1/2 hour. In the mean time my car cooled down then when we cranked it back up I had 10 more whp.

As for a baseline of 150 whp, I thought that was more than stock for a 2000.

After I dropped the cams in, it felt a bit slower than my stock cams. But after playing around with the Timing, it felt better.

After tuning, yes it does feel better, but still... 158.6wHP is not what i expected. A friend of mine with Type-R Cams got into 180's, so I was hoping i would hit around there also...

Very dissapointed.

Is it because it was just too hot? Lawrence (Tuner) said the intake is steaming hot that you can't even touch it. Or is it because I'm running my stock exhaust?

I would guess both. Larger cams need to move more air, back pressure is probably hurting you somewhat. What was the outside air temp?

After talking to alot of people, all of them are saying HEAT/Humidity makes a BIG difference, so I'll try dynoing my car when its cooler and with the fan on.

Where's the skunk2 Intake Manifold?...If you're looking for peak numbers, open up for a little better air flow to help out your combination. I dynoed 158whp 119trq with just i/im/h/e, No tuning, of course that was at 60 degrees. I'm at 176whp and 130ft/lb trq Now w/ Current mods and tuning. Don't give up hope yet...

Yeah, I've tuned at DSR twice. I lost 3 whp the second time because it was more hot and a lot more humid. Lawrence told me you can lose as much as 5-10 whp depending on the temperature. The key is to get it at optimal settings then it will run best in all weather conditions. Even if it made 150 whp that day, the next night it might make 160 whp while you're cruising around.

not really, torque curve blew.....

i ran a much faster time with my new reprogrammed ecu, skunk2 itm, and 270cc

that is amazing my friend. that puts u in the low 14's doesnt it...with simply i/h/e and cams. shows you how much cams really can help.

Just came back test driving it because its cool outside. Boy does it feel different! That thing PULLS now. I can especially feel it in the mid range.

It's NOTICEABLY faster than before. I'll try getting my car Dyno'd under cooler conditions next time...

Oh yea. I forgot to say something...

My torque curve is very odd. I hit my PEAK Torque at 3000rpm!

It drops from 5000rpm - 6500rpm then goes back up from then on.

Should be able to fix that with a V-AFC.

W/out looking at the plots I could tell your curve would look funny, peaking at 111, I thought it was a 1.6.

Something is not right. What are you cam gear settings and is that header a JDM 4-1 or the needle dick USDM 4-1?

You definitely need more tuning. I've seen another guy on this board with a very similar setup, pushing over 200HP to the wheels.

those skunk 2 cams are very good cams.

170 hp at the flywheel for the GSR

145whp is average for a GSR at the wheels

anything over that average and you've got yourself one of the good ones....

My old Stock 98 GSR new from dealer was 145whp and after i/h/e, cam gears is was 165whp...

As I said in your thread in the Tech section...

The heat soat is what's killing you...go back when the fan is working and you'll see a world of difference.

Each car is different...there could have been different contributing factors for how the car dynoes, and if you install the exact same parts in 2 cars you will not get the same numbers, each car responds a little differently to modifications...

Any one of these could result in a slightly different reading...a couple of them together would highly skew your results.

1. new plugs vs. old plugs
2. CA 91 octane vs 93-94 elsewhere
3. new oil vs old oil
4. water temp
5. clogged cat
6. dirty fuel filter
7. dirty injectors

Just my thoughts...

And could you find me the guy that's putting out well over 200 whp with the skunk2 cams...I'd like to evaluate it vs a couple of the runs that I have.

Thank you,
Austin
