So what is this "factory bypass"
alright, i have an 07 lx, with the stock so called alarm it comes with, im looking to get the alarm below in the link, but i was told before the installation can be done, i need a "factory bypass" now when reading other topics on alarms on the new civic(8thcivic), i never heard anyone run into this, i call up my local honda and they have no clue, they just offered me their alarm. Can anyone clarify this? and where can I get it?

im not sure about "factory bypass".. but the only bypass situation i can think of with aftermarket alarms is when you get a remote start. the bypass meaning you need a valet key to put in the unit itself to bypass the immobilizer system and program it to the unit. without this the car will not start. hope this helps.
Since I feel like thread-jacking this thread for my own personal gain I think i'll do it.
Does anybody know if this bypass module is the same thing as the "Interface Modules" listed on Viper's car alarm website? I try to look up my vehicle model and year but only the '08 Si comes up on the drop down list.
And will I need one of these interface modules for installing a Viper 1002/5002 alarm?
Thanx and sorry for the thread jack!

A bypass module/immobilizer bypass/interface modules are all the same. The system in the OP's link says it has remote start included which means you will need the extra part. What this part does is bypass the factory security during the remote start cycle so the factory alarm will not be activated. From the factory, your key comes with a small chip inside of it called a transponder chip. What that does is send a signal to the ignition circuit when you start your car to basically let the vehicle know YOU are trying to start the car vs. someone trying to hot wire it. It is a factory anti-theft. If you don't use a bypass module, when the ignition circuit is activated by the remote start the car basically has a fuel injector kill and wont let the car start. It will crank for a second and the security light will turn on to let you know the factory anti-theft has kicked in and will not start until you use the original key. On newer hondas, the light is green and in the shape of a car with a key inside of it. Everytime you start your car this light turns on and turns off after the car is started with the key. Basically, all a bypass module does is trick the ignition into thinking there is a key in it. If you have any questions let me know.
