Rsx-S Rattle
Alright soo...I just bought an 03 Rsx-S from my bro about a month ago..Love the car but there is a loud rattling sound at around 1800-2000rpm. Drives me crazy. Thought it was the intake manifold cover so I bent it up so it doesn't rattle on the manifold. Checked Cat and Exhaust manifold heat shield which were all tight. Heat shield around the axle was tight too. Still rattles so I'm stuck. Any DC5 owners out there ever had this problem? Car has 77000 km. Thanks for any help!
Its a manual. Does not rattle in neutral. Only when it has a load on it for example starting off in first or second at 1800-2000 rpm. But if I rev higher and maintain a higher rev than 2000 and let off the clutch it wont make the sound..Just at the certain rpm band under load.

there is a heat shield on the right half shaft loosen all the bolts and adjusted the shield to one side away from the exhaust then retighten. there is a service bulletin for that noise
my money is on the cat heat shield, its a 3 layor shield and as it rusts apart, the inner layors rattle against the cat....I just replaced my wifes cat heat shield on her rsx....big pia and about 120 bucks in parts.
i dont know about you guys but i got a weird rattling sound too, it seems my hood latch is loose cause when i put my hand on the hood to hold it down the rattle stops, lol but i dont think my rattle fits the description everyone else is giving, but im putting it out there that if you dont take care of that hood latch you may have a loose one just like mine ... lol : )
A friend of mine with a Type-S had a problem with rattling and it turned out to the A/C line vibrating on the hood. He was boosted though, so I don't if that affected where the line was placed or what but maybe that could be a solution to someones rattle.
I have an 02 RSX that has a rattle as well. I thought is was the catalytic converter shield, but three hose clamps hasn't fixed it.
The problem is that it doesn't really make a noise when it's sitting still and the engine is revved. But it DOES rattle when under the load of taking off in first the 2 - 3000 rpm range. It's been hard to diagnose because it only seem to happen when it moving.
One shop seemed to think it was the timing belt guides. But it was going to cost me $350 just to find out if their guess was right. I haven't taken it back there.
Anyone who has solved this problem, it would be great to hear from them.

is it a rattle or a studder? Does it do when you hit bump? Is it a high rattle or low pitch? if its low then yeah its your motor mount bushings going out. I got a new cluch put it on mine and the noise when away for awhile, now its slowly coming back becuase I think its getting old. Be careful though, if that rattle turns into a studder, then your clutch is going out, that's what happened to mine. I am on my third clutch. This car just has so many issues.
I would classify it has a low pitch rattle. Not when I hit a bump though, just when I take off and shift in the 2000-3000 range. I just had a new clutch installed and it was happening before that. I will check the motor mounts.
