Default Need some help buying a Civic.

Hello everyone,
A friend of mine wants to get a civic but he wants some more advice. He has narrowed it down to 2 choices, a 1993 Civic vx with 200xxx miles in great conditon for 3,000.00 or a 1999 civic dx in good condition with 150xxx miles on it for 3,400.00. Which one do you guys think is the better deal. They both have good titles and nothing wrong with them and both have good paint.

Yeah he was excited to find the 99 for almost the same price as the 93 so that might be the winner.

Are you kidding? The choice should be obvious. The 99 looks better, has less miles, and probably is in a little better conditon somewhere along the line.

They are hatches and the 93 was just painted type r white and the 99 is black, to be honest the eg looks cleaner than the ek and is bone stock and well taken care of. To me the eg is a bette looking car than an ek, thats just my opinion though.

It depends on what you want to do, whether you want a project car, or something that gets great mileage getting from point A to to point B, either way the VX shines.

A Champion White EG Hatch does sound nice, so does a Black 99 Hatch, hmm.. so both are stock, with AC?

See what kbb.com says a fair price is for these cars. You did use autocheck.com or carfax.com to check the titles, right? If they are both manual trannies, then the 93 should get better fuel mileage. Also, does either car have a documented maintenance history, especially for when the timing belt, water pump, and TB tensioner were last changed? That's about $150 in parts right there.

If you are only willing to spend just over 3k on a car than you should get the 99. I'm guessing you don't have money falling out of your butt so get the one that is newer and more reliable. It only makes sense...

Some good input so far, they both have ac also. The guy with the 99 just dropped the price to 3k so that will be the one my friend will get for sure now. He has about 4k to spend but wanted some left over to do maintenance and register and all that stuff.
