want 6 speed for h22a, who can help me?
I have a 93 prelude with the h22a 2.2 vtec. im about to rebuild the motor top to bottom and eventualy put a turbo in. needless to say theres gonna be alot more hp than the 215hp it has now. i want replace the stock 5 speed with a 6 speed transaxle. Ive spoken directly to honda and they dont have one, they wouldnt help me at all, ****ing useless. I know acura has some badass 6 speeds, maybe theres some adapter to make one fit the h22a? any suggestions would be highly appreciated. thanks
Good luck with that. Unless you plan on going with a full custom racing transmission, which are worth more than your car, settle with upgrading the stock tranny with carbon syncros, longer final drive ratios, a light flywheel and a worthy clutch setup.
The cost of having another gear isn't worth the hassle.

Custom. More gears does not equal stronger gear box, just the option of having a closer ratio without sacraficing too much top end speed.
Your stock 5 speed tranny will hold roughly 600-650whp, just be wary on the dyno.

oh, have you ever heard of someone puting the 4ws system into a prelude that came stock w/o it?
Racing trannies are VERY expensive. Even a fully built H trans would cost around $5k, a custom gearbox/bellhousing/clutch combo could run you 3-5 times that I'm sure. Acura does have some 6 speed trannies but they won't work with an H motor. Easiest way would be to do a K swap, swap the motor and trans. Thats nowhere easy or cheap either.

Quaife has a 6 speed sequential FWD gearbox. Cost is around $20k. http://www.autotech.com/quaife/trans...ns/fwd/34g.htm

Well i doubt a racing trani would be worth more than my car, but thanks for your input, i guess i never thought about upgrading my stock tranny, thanks, il look into that. its my first honda and im very impressed with it. its a 93 and only 50,000 miles!

You should do some more research. Most of the custom tranny shops I've spoken too, have quoted me roughly 5K for stock upgrade (gears made of stronger material and spec'd, carbon syncros, taller FD ratio), when we start talking about straight cut gears, it jumps to about 7-8K, sequential trannies will run around 15-20K depending on the setup and gearing. So in short, a custom racing transmission could very well cost more than what your car is worth.
Do you guys want to see something f'd? H22 with an s2000 tranny slapped on it. Don't believe me, follow the link. What is more suprising is the car it is in.... that and the dizzy relocation. I have no clue how he did that either.

I'm working on rebuilding a base 97 5 speed. Been looking for a place to get a custom 5th gear.I wouldn't want to mess with my final gear since I will loose my low end. But a 5 gear that is say 400 -600 rpms lower then now would be great for top speed getting top speed up to say 160mph. I would recommend a LSD just for traction. Maybe if we get enough people that want a shorter(lower rpms) 5th gear we could get Gearspeed to build one.
Too tall? Exactly what do you mean? I run a 4.714 CircuitWorx FD in my track car without any issues.
I'm really tempted to build a spare transmission with a 5.15 MFactory FD since I'm planning to run slightly larger OD tires. I used to run 225/50/15s or 225/40/17s, and I'm planning to switch to 245/40/17.
With the 225/50/15s, I can top the car out in 5th on the front straight at TWS.

I wonder which direction that H22 turns. The problem is that the earlier honda engines turned the opposite direction from most other production engines and from the newer offerings with 6-speed trannies, so adapting a tranny means it will be running backwards and may not handle it well. For example, the angled teeth on the gears will load all the shafts in the other direction.

never heard of a 6spd for an h series.
i know of hatches that get K series swaps with the 6spd trans.
never heard of someone putting in a K series into a lude, but i live in the middle of nowhere, so who knows.
