Default 17' rims integrity

I might get some 17' rims to put on my 93' Hatchback Civic that I bought this morning after a long look and test drive (and the advice of Spade) I'm liking Motegi's but in general are those rims and Low Pro tires durable enough for expressway driving and the interstate? Some reason i only see Import guys crusing on busy city streets and not the 70mph highways for longish distances.

Wow I did not know they were making 17' rims! You car must be enormous! Haha! J/K

Anyway, a 17" rim should work fine for you as long as you are careful with going over potholes and other obstructions.

damn when did they come out with 17' rims? i need to upgrade from my 15' rims

being serious, the strength of the rims will depend on who makes them. also they are more prone to bending or cracking because you have to use a low pro file tire...

Its not a poll and he probably could give a **** that you like 15's. He asked a ? about 17's. I had some Racing Hart 17's on my '00 Si for awhile. I hit a pothole and blew a tire. The rim is fine but the tire was toast. It was more like a ditch than a pothole though. I am pretty sure you should be fine, I have had 17's on other cars and this is the first time something has happened. I only got rid of them because I needed the money not because of that incident. However you will notice a loss in performance and ride quality. I dunno too much about Motegi but if they couldn't hold up on the street they probably wouldn't be on the market.

ITS YOUR CAR, DO WHAT YOU WANT AND TELL EVERYONE WHO HATES TO KISS YOUR ***.

17's will kill your car's acceleration. that and the fact it'll make your car look like a freakin truck.

The integrity is another matter, most cheap affordable wheels are made in a process called casting. Some wheel makers (e.g. Rota) claim to make light weight wheels. The way this is achieved is by the casting method but making the wheel with less material, thus making the wheel lighter.
This process does make a lighter wheel but seriously undermines the wheel's strength. So with a 17in wheel or a multi peice wheel it would really serve no performance purpose other than look pretty. Going with a Forged or semi solid forged wheel would obviously be a better option. Here you can have the best of both worlds, a very strong forged wheel, but because of the forging process and material the wheel is lighter. Of course with this kind of quality price is higher but IMO well worth it.
