Weird issue... car won't turn off in reverse
When I turn the ignition off with the shift lever in reverse, the engine won't turn off until I take the shifter out of reverse. Every other gear is normal, car shuts down when it's supposed to.
I should also note that my reverse lights don't work either. My guess is someone wired the reverse sensor on the tranny to something? Has anyone ever heard of this?
And for those who don't know, it's a B18 EF

what do you mean it won't turn off? What exactly happens when you turn the key off when it is in reverse... Yes Mr. Obvious it stays on, but I mean does the key come out of the ignition normally? Was the car automatic before?
At some point someone has changed the wiring harness. The plug on the drivers side of the harness will need to have a couple of wires repinned. Follow the reverse light wire colors to that plug and repin. This happened to me also following a DPFI-MPFI swap with a conversion harness that I bought.
The car was always a 5 speed. Key comes out normally.
rustbucketrex that would make sense since my EF has a B18. Would you happen to know which wires need to be re-pinned?
Thanks guys

I believe the colors are green and yellow/black. Unhook the connectors from the plugs at the transmission reverse switch and check them with a meter at the drivers side plug until you find the right ones. I think you can also match them up with wires on the other side of the plug by color, but it's been a couple of years since I fixed this.

This may not be Honda-specific, but I know some older GM trucks had the same problem when you put the auto trans in neutral or reverse.
Long shot, but do you have an automatic ECU?
And yes, rustbucketrex is right on the wire colors for the reverse sensor, they should be green and yellow/black on the transmission end.

Well for one, they had to have done some wiring since it's a DX which would mean it was DPFI, and now it's MPFI with the b18. If you disconnect your reverse switch at your tranny which are two wires, and try it and it doesn't do it. You have a wiring issue.
Try that, let us know what happens.

the problem is in the engine harness plug on the drivers side strut tower (as long as its a left hand drive car) whomever did the swap on it used a harness off of another car, or got one from rywire, or anothe company that make dpfi to mpfi converversion harneses for efs 2 of my buddies had this problem on theirs. all you have to do is repin the reverse light green wire to match up with the one on the chassie side of the plug. it isnt the company that made the harneses fault, honda just pinned the reverse light power wire in a different location on some modles for some unknown reason lol. i also had the same problem when i took the engine and harness out of my crx and swapped it to my sedan. they were both dxs to start with, and both ere 91s. just, the reverse light power wire was pinned in a different location on each. the only reason i used my crx harness on my sedan was that i made it super clean, and didnt feel like doing it over again lol.
Ha now finally after a year someone has the same problem. I got out my shop manual and checked every wire after I wired up my h22 and still could not find the problem good to know that they moved pins around for no good reason with out including it in the manual.
yeah lol, i actually had to lay my sedan harness next to my crx harness and look at where the wires were pinned in the plugs to figure it out.
