Hey Corey, how 'bout a race report?
Thanks for the Congrats.. Here is my writeup from the Roadracing Board..
First of all, big thanks for Karl and Scott.. Another Terriffic ECHC weekend...
Thanks George, Morgan, and Heather for helping me out all weekend.. Keeping me sane and helping with the car, I really appreciate it!
Went out first session practice on Saturday, just basically driving 8/10ths.. Carefully heating up my new braking system, and making sure everything is working well, also taking it easy on the new hoosiers I bought, and I'm still trying to figure out tire pressures.. They went to 50psi hot from 36psi cold.. I could tell I had to figure out these tires fast.. Ran a 1:56.xx lap time..
Qualifying.. Fiddled with tire pressures and lined up first in grid.. Warmed up the brake and tires and right after the warm uplap, I did my fastest lap.. 1:52.9 The car was awesome !! Only ran 3 laps and called it quits... Qualified 2nd and am very happy with the car! Hoosiers really are great, I just hate it that I have to use them...
Race.. After a long wait and 2 warm up laps, the green finally droped.. I got a great pull in 1st gear, went for 2nd, DUH, missed it!! So I just tucked in behind Jack with Chad breathing down my neck.. Go into T4 with Chad on my *** and my car steped out a hair.. I think that scared Chad as he lifted a lot and spun of the track.. (Remember Chad, cold rear tires on the first lap or 2, everyone is sideways) Pretty much just ran away with the race with Jack, we had decided before hand that we were not going to race each other.. We both can't afford to do so if need be.. THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE PASSED JACK..
Sunday, everything went great again, only did 2 laps in qualifying and qualified 2nd again on a more slick track..
The race.. Started 2nd again.. Jack and I talked about how to keep Chad and Alex behind us.. It worked pretty damn well with us taking up the left side of the track On the first lap, Alex got around Chad, all I could think about was "chit, he passed him already!!" By the second lap Alex was glued on my bumper at T8.. Pulled a couple feet on him by the Kink, but that is when he lost it.. I saw it all in my mirror. While watching, I was thinking "yes, he spun" then "oh ****, I hope he doesn't flip"!! Kinda scary watching the car rock at that speed.. Car was awesome for 7 laps or so, then I started slidding everywhere with the front end.. The tires just gave up. Then I got a slight vibration that just got worse.. Had no clue what it was. The car was starting to get uncontrolable, doing weird chit in the corners and straights.. White flag came out.. I was just cruising around coming out of T7 when she blew on me.. It just shattered.. Blowing oil and smoke everywhere on my car, AGAIN.. I pulled up behind the T8 flag stand, and waived to everyone as they passed, AGAIN.. GGGGRRR Lost 11 pts due to axles..
A couple things:
Andie Lin (formally CarbotechAndie) set me up with a set of Ferodo DS3000 pads that I LOVED.. Rotors don't even have any small stress cracks in them, all the boots and ABS lines still are in great shape.. Very competitive prices, great service, and the pads lasted a long time.. Still have at least 2/3 of the pads left, and with no rivets, I can take them down to the backing plates..
Thanks Andie, Corey's braking problems are finally solved..
Thanks NASA for putting on a great and very entertaining weekend! Had a great time again, can't wait for LMS..
Oh yea, 2 1/2 shop vac hose works great as long as its not any closer then 4" from the rotors.. only 17$

. Was it just pads and brake ducts that did the trick?Good luck solving that axle problem.
Well, I did the upper contoll arm swap to gain more CASTER, and I am thinking that is putting to much stress on the joint of the axle.. I'll ask in the RR board...
Props for representin' the Prelude in the Honda Challenge!!!
Hell, Chris Brinson owns hondaprelude.com and he's driving a damn integra
How exactly are the axles breaking and where? You're using stock axles? Is is possible to get stronger replacement axles (like chromoly) from some company? And is that legal in the challenge?
Anyways, fix those axles and lets see some more 1st place H2 wins

I'm waiting to see what the race guys think. They do the kind of driving you were when you broke it, so maybe they have more experience diagnosing problems. My only guess is maybe it's a combination of the new control arms plus the fact that you're on the shock bump stops up front (or have you gotten a new suspension setup?). But that's just a shot in the dark. God help H2 when you get that suspension sorted out
.
Got any more detail on what exactly happened? I'd bet that's kind of hard to tell when it breaks while your inside the car going 100+mph.

The car just got a vibration in about lap 7, then broke on 12, and I was taking it easy because I had a HUGE lead.. I don't think its the drop in suspension, because I havn't changed the height of it at all..
Props, for representin.. but we are representing ourselves where I live.
Im a straightliner but my cone dodger / closed circuit-racer friend reps there and another kills in the show classes out here. *keep it up
