98 CRV rear wheel noise
I have a 98 CRV AWD that seems to have a probelm with noise coming from the rear wheels. It happens when you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and drive in a tight circle. At first there's no noise but then you hear it coming from the right rear wheel. It's definitly coming from something that is turning because the sound varies up and down. It's kind of a low squeak. When you turn the wheel the other way you hear the noise from the other side but not a load which makes me wonder if its coming from the right side still but is transferred to the left throught the axle and transfer case.
So far there's no noise when driving straight.
The transfer case fluid was changed 20k ago and the level is still full.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well it took a while to get around to this but I changed the fluid and the noise went away. My local Honda dealer confirmed that this can happen when the fluid needs changing. The old fluid looked pretty good - it's interesting that it had a problem. Somewhere I found a maintenance schedule that says to change it every 90,000 miles which is obvioiusly too long. Does anyone have a recommended frequency? (Again this is a 98 CRV).
Thanks to all for your help.

i just had the same noise and i replaced the fluid with the same results. i heard that if you drive your v kinda hard you should do it every 20k. but if you drive really mild and dont go hard on it you should do it every 30k
I've been reading it's more like every 15K miles. I just picked up a '97 and the only thing wrong was this sound. I did some research and it plagues ALL AWD CRV's, even the new ones.
same thing happened to me after i got my V..
i repalced the dual pump fluid, isnt it amazing that the fluid
looks fresh even though its been there for a while/needs replacement??
LOL!
