I'm not sure of the exact process for accessing the filter on the 92 but if you take a minute to look at the are intake assembly, it will be pretty straight forward. If the car still has the OEM intake system on it than will include a large rubber tube that leads to a plastic box near the front of the car. Screws or clips will hold the cover on the box, in the box will be the air filter.
Look for holes in the filter or excessive dirt. If the filter has an obvious dark color to it and has debris in it than it would be a good time to change it. Essentially your looking for a filter that has restriction. They are fairly cheap (Usually under $20) If you have trouble accessing the filter try searching some more on these forums, there are thousands of questions and answers on here, also try a google search.

The air box is located right above your battery. It has a few bolts holding it down. You can use the phillips screw driver to unscrew it, but I suggest to try to use a socket.
Pull the cover up, just enough for you to take the filter out.
*Remember how the filter comes out. (Which side is up and which side is down)
Inspecting: My auto shop teacher told me to hold it up against the sun, if there's little light coming through, you need to replace it. If it's still clean you can blow it off with compressed air; blow from clean side.
Install it, and don't tighten too hard as these screws are brittle and fragile. I've broken a few.

Just check the air filter, but if you just bought the car, chances are the previous owner didnt do much maintenance when they decided they were going to sell it, so just do a full tune up and be confident that you have changed all the maintenance items on your car and gain some confidence in the car.
