Default primer to base, how long?

is it ok to shoot the car in high build primer, leave it for a day or to, sand it down then shoot the base+clear around a week after? (its cellulose btw)

or does it really need painting over within 48 hours etc?

thanks

dont sand the primer down until your ready to paint it, just because you never know what might gouge the primer or scrape it and then if you go to paint over it youll just have to take a step backwards to fix it. If i prep something, i never wait more than a day to spray it, even then i go back over it and look for stuff that may have been messed up before i pull it in the booth to spray it. I certainly would not sand the car down, drive it around for a week and then paint it. cause than your just opening up the pores of the material to let more contaminants in. just wait till your ready to spray it or the day before if your driving it somewhere to get painted.

thanks. i was not planning on driving the car around. was just going to paint it ,leave it in a heated garage for a good few days (up to a week) before sanding then doing the base + clear that day.

quick question, is it worth painting the car in an epoxy primer first (2k)?

there area few bits i went back to bare metal on (or rather the welding guy did ) he used zinc rich weld through primer and then i went over it all in a thick rust stopper/anti rust paint (just to keep the moisture off it until i can get the entire car sanded)

also there area few bits that require some filler (i have that dinitrol aluminum filler, not some cheap stuff that leaves pitts when you sand it)). if i decide to paint the car in epoxy do i use the filler on the bare metal then paint over it, or do i use it after i paint the epoxy? also my sills could be with taking back to bare metal to make sure there is no more rust own there etc? is it safe to paint over pre-painted surfaces with epoxy? dont really want to bare metal the entire car, the the rear arches and sills and anywhere where im grinding off some surface rust
