I am in the middle of replacing the head gasket and timing belt on my 98 CX. The service manual just says the TDC mark on the crankshaft pulley will be marked white, i dont have any white marks on my pulley anymore. All i can see is a lil dash mark then 3 dash marks (etchs in the pulley) which of these is suppose to be aligned with the lower timing cover? I think its the 3 lil marks, you use the center mark as the point you line the cross hairs on the timing cover up with. But im not 100% sure. Anyone know for sure?

 

I don't know if there is a difference between the d-series crank pulleys, but my d16z6 looks like this.
There is 3 marks with the middle being red, and 2 marks to the right of the 3 marks with the outside being white.

Hope this is helpful, but I don't know if there is a difference between d-series crank pulleys.

i found this, and he says its the lone mark. im going to use that and verify with the cam marks and then oil pump marks. thanks

 

I belive you have to line up the line on the head to the gasket part (depending on how many lines). My Z6 head has 3 lines. The bottom 2 lines need to be straight across flat and the other one should be in the center pointing directly up.

 

the 3 lines are what you want the timing light to flash at and the one in the middle is the exact perfect degree the too on the outside are 2 degrees in the oppsite degree. Do you now the exact degree your civic is suppose to be at

heres somin u can try, take spark plug 1 out take a loooong skinny screw driver ( long enough that the handle doesnt touch the threads for the spark plug) or a looong socket extension just so it sits on top of the piston and is a couple inches outside the hole, move the pulley left to right as ur watchin whatever u use to see where it stops goin up and starts doin back down or vise versa... make sure cyl 1 is on the compression stroke
