Default thermostat question.

I have a 94 integra ls with b18b1 I was wondering if a spoon thermostat or gsr thermostat would be the same as the thermostat for LS.

Careful, you shouldn't lower your coolant temperature too much. I want to say the optimum coolant temperature for the best engine efficiency is around 180-190 degrees F.

Yea keep it where it needs to be. I have problems with a bigger KOYO radiator and no a/c condensor. When it's driving on a cool day or night on the highway my temperature drops way too low. It's done that ever since I installed it and needs to be dealt with. Definately not good especially if you have vtec because it won't work until up to operating temperatures.

Sounds like you're either missing the thermostat, or its stuck open.

That's weird, vtec has engaged first thing in the morning when the engine is still cold.

agreed i think ur thermo is bad go buy an honda oem thermo rising and falling temp. is the poster child for a bad thermo. Ur thermo should be regulating coolant flow to maintain a consistant temp.

odd, I was pretty sure VTEC required a certain oil and/or coolant temperature for it to engage.

Unfortunately the Helms doesn't really address or describe VTEC operation like it describes other functions controlled by the ECU, including the intake air bypass system. Very strange.

Oil pressure is the only thing the ecu checks before vtec engagement

I am not to sure why you would want to use a spoon sport or gsr themostat. optimum temp is around 180-190 but they have started making thermostates that differ from 160-210 in increments of 10 degrees. They also have fail-safe thermostates that if they fail, they have a built in bypass to allow coolant flow.

Im pretty sure you dont know what you're talking about becuase the ECU doesn't even check oil pressure. Vtec just wont work without it. The ECU however does check for speed and coolant tempature. If you don't believe me go unplug those sensors and tell me if vtec works.
