alternator belt squealing like a pig. that means...

Default alternator belt squealing like a pig. that means...

a. the belt is too lose

b. the belt is too tight

c. the belt is a POS. get a new one.

which is it?

thanks rexman.

i just looked up the specs for the belt tension. they say to:

- apply a 22lb force on the belt and measure the deflection.
- you should measure on the topside of the belt in the middle of the crankshaft pulley and the alternator pulley.
-deflection should be 9mm-11mm (0.35"-0.43"). on a new belt is should be 7mm-9mm (0.25"-0.35").
