Default Insurance Questions?

SO...Since I am thinking of buying a bike pretty soon here, I am also looking into insurance. I am not sure if you have seen my other thread, but I am debating between a Suzuki SV and a GSX-R 600. Almost certainly, I am going to get the SV.

Here are my questions...

1. Why is insurance on the SV more than insurance on the GSX-R?

2. Do you have collision coverage? With a $1K deductable the 12 month rate is over $1K. After a year or two the insurance money is more than the bike actually costs. This leads me to my next question...

3. I could get simple (bodily injury, all req., etc.) for a little over $100/yr. Would this be my best bet? How often do cycles get stolen, especially if I use and park it outside of the garage very rarely.

4. That's all, I guess, I will post more once I think of it.

THANKS,

Kyle

I'm no expert but I'll try

1) Because the SV has 50 more CC's.

2) I will. Full coverage for a 2000 f4 with $500 deductables is $649/year for me. I'm 19, with a 5 over speeding ticket from 2 years ago.

3) Maybe try shopping around for a cheaper rate somewhere. I'm going with State Farm. I'm not an expert when it comes to insurance, I get confused with all the acronyms. I still don't know either.

Good luck man. That quote is for a 2000 CBR600. For a 2002 it was like $679/year.

im 23 with a driving under suspension on my license and on my SV its like $1000 a year......for my 98 gixxer 600...if I wanted to get full coverage on it it would be almost $4000 a year !!!!!

that why I only have full coverage on my SV.

displacement is the biggie when it comes to cycle insurance. That's why the 598/599cc "600" series bikes are in high demand over the 602 etc. cc bikes. 600 seems to be the biggest difference in rates/displacement. It also hops over 750cc as well. MSF courses also help. Each more advanced class you complete lowers your rate differing company to company. State farm doesn't offer discounts to those that complete safety courses b/c they say "we don't inflate our rates to begin with" and so on. I hope that helped a bit. For me its been a 250, 500 and a 598 and eventually a 748 Btw, don't even bother w/ comprehensive coverage. It's all about liability and maybe theft if you feel its necessary. Good gear is all the comprehensive coverage you'll need b/c if you really do **** something up bad enough to hurt your savings, you won't live to pay for it
