I have a 95 Honda Accord LX with an H22A1 motor swap. I live in Colorado so the tempurature varies constantly. The issue im having is when it is warm outside if i drive the car for more then 20 minutes the check engine light will come on with the VTEC solenoid code. The only issue this causes is it sets in the ever so annoying rev limiters and speed governers. Other then that the power is fine and everything work right. But when it is cold outside the check engine light never comes on but from the second you start to drive the car feels sluggish, then at 4200 rpm (where my VTEC AFC is programmed to kick in the VTEC) you will hear the VTEC kick in but the car never increases its acceleration rate and feel just as sluggish as before. This is until about 5500-6000 rpm when you are jolted back into your seat from the dramatic increase in power and acceleration. But this only happens 85% of the time when its cold outside the other 15% it runs great. Im wondering if it isnt a problem with the fuel system, im going to run a can of Fuel system cleaner through it to see if this clears it up, if not im thinking fuel filter or injectors possibly? Or if its linked to the VTEC Solenoid code? Please if you have any thoughts on the problem let me know so i can get this fixed, thanks!!

 

You know im think i'm officially dissapointed in the supposed "Honda-tech" public, it seems to me that at least one if not more of you should have some sort of idea as to the issue with my car, ive at least got a few ideas. But i guess the day of the garage mechanic that needed no shop is out and everyone just pays for service now with no real engine knowledge except as to what bolt ons give you 5 extra hp. If im wrong please, please tell me but from scanning the new posts and going over some of the comments I think i might be right in the early dissapointment.....

 

Honda-Tech is a clique mentality; the reason I don't post here anymore.
If a person with 22 years experience posts an answer for you, some smart mouthed punk-assed Emo will jump in and flame, slam, and goad, with complete moderator approval.
Then they will declare that morons diagnose, and smart boys just replace parts.

 

Get an oil change, then replace the gasket on the lower half of the solenoid and the o ring on the top half. Also when you have the solenoid apart make sure the actuator can move freely.

sometimes the filter on the gasket gets clogged and dirty causing vtec malfunction.

When its done re set the ecu either by removing the fuses or disconnect the battery.

Fix the vtec code you will probably fix the problem.

 

Well the VTEC does actually kick in or else i couldnt hear the change in tone from the engine there just is no change in power. Also I have a VTEC AFC installed which bypasses the oil pressure switch on the solenoid, which now makes it RPM controlled to kick on at 4200 RPM. This is why I was thinking it was fuel.

 

Yea thats definetly true, it seems like it might be true in most of the world lately, i just cant get away from smart mouthed kids with big attitudes.
