Mugen engine mounts
Anyone replace their stock engine mounts with the Mugen set? ($370 from King, OE replacements are ~$280 wholesale) Any observed difference in engine flop or vibration at idle or shifting under high g's?
TIA for any comments.
TIA for any comments.
I plan on installing my set of Mugen engine mounts along with the ES engine mount inserts, when the turbo motor comes on-line.
hehe, just looked in that box, and forgot all about the Mugen 3-piece shifter bushing set and LHT MC brace.
I need to finish this project, soon!
Before I buy even more parts.

mugen
post some pics when you are done
A BM vid that compared 50,000km+ cars and their reliabilities indicated that on the ITR, the only thing need to be replaced and watch out for is the engine mount. While all other turbo cars have to change the turbine and whatnots..yadayadayada.

The last time i saw a set of mugen engine mounts, they didnt seem to do anything
since the engine still moved around A LOT. ES inserts with stock mounts make
more of a difference for about 1/10 cost.

I plan on installing the ES inserts soon.
Are the ES inserts the ones with those odd retaining pseudo-zip-tie straps?
If so, what's a better way of holding these inserts in?
I have a set of front lower engine mounts and I've noticed the driver's side insert is being held on by only one of the straps.

How do you know when you need to replace engine mounts?
If I remember correctly, they took a red ITR w/ ~60K kms and had spoon 'refresh' it.
- new shocks
- new shifter rods
- spoon front lower A-arm bushing
- new engine mounts (not sure if it was OEM or spoon)
they showed a before and after pic of the engine from the side of the car. The engine was sitting lower by 1/4 to almost 1/2" w/ the old mounts .
the test drivers all reported a better, tighter feel of the car. it showed also, when the lap times improved a few seconds.

shi - who wishes he had bought that issue

now i just need to find a place that can get it for me...
If you can deal with the vibration, the Prothane motor mount kit is very stiff. It has inserts for the rear mount, upper passenger side mount, and a full poly piece (no insert) for the upper driver side mount. VERY stiff setup. The upper driver side mount is also adjustable in a way that you can choose from two different stiffness pieces, a street disc or a race disc. The race disc feels has hard as a frickin' hockey puck.

Gotta go with sgT on this one...ES mounts make a world of difference at a substantial price difference.
Vibration isn't so bad to the point you can't see out of your mirrors, but you do get a more "direct driving feel".
For you nutso types, the addition of the Prothane upper kit ought to shake your fillings right out.
Both can be had for much less than the Mugen pieces...

Here is a clip to the vid I am talking about.
HK Version so it has Chinese captions...although it usually has English subtitle as well. Anyway, I did the rip and someone else please do the translation?

Spoon's MTGs are about 30-40% stiffer. If you use them for DRAG , I don't think you'll notice too much difference but during ON/OFF TB response or brake/turn/acceleration the difference is pretty noticeable.

I can understand that the ES/Prothane polys don't damp vibration like high-durometer rubber. I want to be able to the rear view mirror. ;-)
AJ PwR, are you advocating Spoon b/c you've tried Mugen and broken them? Could you be more specific about driving conditions, etc.? It looks like you're a Spoon distributor...
TIA.
