Intermittent overheating
My boss came up to me today and asked about his 98 Accord. In very sporatic and only a few occasions, his Accord overheats. He has to run the heater on full blast to keep the needle down.
Sounds like a bad thermostat, right? Here's where it gets weird. It's only done it 3 or four times, over the course of 2 years, and it has only happened in the extreme cold. To make it even weirder, the car sat in the garage the night before. It's never done it in the summertime.
I told him I thought it was the thermostat, but I can't explain why it would only do it in the extreme cold, and why it happens so few and far between. I thought when a thermostat goes bad, it goes bad. Not work sometimes and not others.
I told him I'd post up a question. I'm still thinking thermostat.
