Default K24a2 with EP3 5spd Tranny

I'm thinking about swapping out my motor and I want to go for a K24 to start with, and later on down the road I might end up with a K20 head. I know that I can find a long block for a decent price but is it even worth it without the 6speed tranny? I know I want to go F/I most likely with a JRSC set-up. So with that in mind would it actually be smart to just use my EP's 5spd? Do any of you have this set-up? How do you like it? Also before I get the SC will my car be any faster with just the K24a2 and my Tranny? Thanks for the input guys.

with a supercharger you are still ok to use the 6spd. I did lots and lots of searching and research and all the turbo and supercharged guys said stick with the 6spd and just do a good LSD. Or if you really are worried just swap in a lower final drive.

So it'd be better with the 6spd? I'm asking because It would save me money to just keep my 5spd but if it's better to go with the 6spd then I might as well do it right.

Ohh haha ok cool, yeah I have my stock 5spd right now and I've heard since it's a little longer geared it'd be better for my JRSC. Also in the mean time before I would get the JRSC will the 5 spd affect the way the K24 drives, I mean will it be slow because of the tranny or will it even make that much of a difference?

No you can keep your 5spd. Once you supercharge it, the 5spd will help. It was just not significant enough for me to do all the work to swap. If I was going turbo not supercharger for me swapping to a 5spd is a good choice.

hahahaha will it be slow?? that k24 will make you smile from head to toe as it puts you to the back of your seat with torque you've never had before!

Shweet... So my list that I have of things that I will need consists of: K-Pro, K24a2Longblock, My 5spd tranny, RBC IM, Hondata IM gasket, Karcepts TB adapter, DCRH that I already have, and eventually the JRSC but later on down the line. Is there anything else that you can think of that I will need? Will my stock motor mounts with ESMM inserts suffice? Thanks for your input, I'm glad you're on since you've already done the swap in your RSX haha.

I would seriously look into mounts. I have the avid mounts and they are great. Also you will want the longer exhaust hangers as the k24 is taller and it pulled my whole exhaust system back almost an inch.

Oh yeah, I thought about that too for the exhaust. I already have a custom midpipe so I'll probably just end up remaking it with a little bigger diameter. How much did yours cost in the end, and you did the swap yourself right?

What bracket? Also is the $2250 what you spent for the long block, or is that with a tranny as well?

Also haha, my EP is a 03 so it has the 4-lug axles. Will I need to get different axles like a 5-lug CTR conversion or something?

you need the side engine mount bracket from the cr-v for our motor mount to work. I bought an engine from a local high end salvage yard. So it has a warranty and low miles. I just didn't trust buying an engine from some guy online.... I've seen friends get junk motor swaps.

As for axles I don't know the strengths of the ep-3 axles so out of my league.

So did the motor come with a tranny or longblock only?

I see... that's probably what I'll end up doing. I wouldn't trust a motor for my daily from someone I don't know that can't back it up. Thanks again for the input, I'm getting pumped just thinking about doing this haha. Now I just have to see if I can be patient enough to save the money or if I should just get a loan haha.

Haha, luckily me and my roomates do this type of thing almost every weekend. This will just be our first K-series job. How difficult would you say the swap is compared to swapping like a B-series into a civic or something, if you know? Because, me and one other person literally can swap a motor, out with the old in with the new, in like 5 hours haha. That's in a civic or integra though haha.

its super easy since it's still swapping k with k.. just bigger

you'll have to cut open all your wiring harness to stretch sensor wires longer.

Do you have any pics of the bracket/crv mount that you were talking about?

Jeez, it really makes that big of a difference? I bet if the EP came with the 6spd tranny stock on the a3, it wouldn't get hated on so much.
