Gutting the cats (Stock Exhaust)
I apologize if this has been covered before, but I searched and didn't come up with much.
I've heard of S2000 owners gutting the cats on stock exhaust. This is obviously not much more than a sound mod, because you're not going to gain a significant amount of power by freeing up such a little amount of air flow.
I'm really interested in a sound clip / video of a gutted cats with stock exhaust to see if it's something I'd like. I honestly don't see myself putting aftermarket exhaust on my S2000 for the simple facts of it's my daily driver and I simply don't like the sound of four-cylinder hondas with exhaust (no offense to anyone here.) However, if gutting the cats produces an agressive, yet subtle (read: quiet) sound out of the stock exhaust, it may be something I look into doing.
For those of you that have performed this, did you experience any negative side-effects?
Thanks in advance.

The S2000 doesnt sound like your stereo typical four cylinder Honda. Gutting the cat with the stock mufflers will make it sound like ***.

Actually, a test pipe will net you some very decent gains for the price. The S2000 responds very differently to mods over other similar setups, like a b-swaped civic. I will say your much better off removing your cat and keeping it and just spending the 100$ on a test pipe. You can sell the S2000 cat for MUCH more then you can a test pipe.

Yeah, just the cat. You will want to pick up one or two defoulers to fool your factory ECU.

and get yourself an apexi ws2 exhaust/muffler, whatever is available for your s2000. It will give you a low deep tone and never gets high pitched/raspy.
and to help out with low deep tones, get yourself a short air intake.
get yourself a high flow cat, since a test pipe is illegal, waste of money, hurts environment, makes exhaust smell bad, and doesn't gain any more power than a high flow cat.

I would beg to differ that a 70mm test pipe offers the same minimal, if any power gains that a hi-flow cat does.
Also, the WS2 exhaust is coated mild steel aside from the muffler. get the WS2, HKS Hi-power, Tanabe Super Hyper, or Neuspeed if you want a quiet S. Mine is quiet with the J's 70RS but i think the turbo helps out a little bit with that
Any car hurts the envioronment, Test pipes are NOT 100% illegal, DEF not a waste of money since hi-flow cats cost more than test pipes.

Not having a cat won't be a problem; South Carolina does not have inspections, and I don't believe there are any laws enforcing the use of a catalytic converter. I could be totally off on that, though.
After hearing those videos, I don't believe I'm going to go this route. Definitely not the sound I was going for.
Okay, IMHO, it sounds like crap. Hehe.

ive heard plenty of videos on youtube on s2ks with stock exhaust and only a testpipe. in my opinion it sounds like a Z. the testpipe will also cut out the drone during highway cruising. also bumps up the power nicely over stock cat. could be worth a shot for you i would almost bet you would like the sound of a testpipe on your stock exhaust just make sure you leave the resonator on your exhaust.
o btw a berk testpipe has an O2 fix built in. ive had mine on for 6 months with no cels

This is true. I think I may purchase a test pipe and see how it sounds without the cats (but keeping the resonators) before I spend money on a nice, quiet (expensive) exhaust system.
