MPFI swap first of all before you get into anything else; then either a D16A6(SI) camshaft swap or a Minime swap (VTEC Head on Stock Block)

never messed with a dx before just my si crx but i know you can tell a difference when trannys are swapped out due to lower gearing. at most with tho's upgrades id say about 20hp and that would be MAX IMO. if doing all that id go boost as well cause the d series back when i had them seemed to struggle for power.

when i boosted my zc at 8.5 psi with a little .42/.48 it was dyno'd at 207whp and 172wtq.

4 spd only came in the std i think. and it SUCKS. its worse on the interstate than my si was. but when they say dx they are talking about the dx 5 speed. and you cant squeeze to much out of a b2 without some boost. cant squeeze two much outa any d without boost. haha. but if it is just ur little toy, do a multi point at least. and the si trans is great if you can find it. and unfortunately there is no way to tell if it is an si. i bought 2 dx trannys that i was told were "si". one of which i myself PULLED from an si so i had no doubt it was and si tranny. but no, it was a dx. so yeh. no fun. ended up finding my si tranny for 30 bucks though. the TRUE si tranny.

the dx 5speed isnt that bad.mpfi isnt going to get you much power, but it will provide better throttle response.do the a6 cam swap.i/h/e.but dont expect it to hold you back in your seat.

Unless you plan on adding some form of forced induction, you're better off making your car lighter then trying to make your engine more powerful.

if you want actual power then just do a swap cuz the only way your getting power out of a d-series is boost and your still gana wana pull it and build it and the stock ef motors are all slow as hell

ya multiport will give you a more broad power band, and i actually liked the dx tranny better than y si and i had a d15b2 wit a6 pistons and head and it ran like a champ i beat a 99 ex wit everybolt on possible and a 50 wet shot directport.... i mean it ran really well for a single cam with a 7lb flywheel and a good clutch to take a beatin it will run really good for ya.... and if you do decide to replace the tranny keep your old dx one cause d-series trannys are notorious for blowin the diff out...

Mpfi the car first of all. The difference between the dx trans and the si trans is the fd. What are your goals for the car and how much are you willing to put down on a project?

if your not wanting to swap, the least i'd do is an obd1 change, with a nice vtec head on there. intake, exhaust, and some juice if you want. there are some quick sohc vtec's running good with some nitrous. just my .02 though.

No more than 200-220.. connecting rods on the D-Series are a POS any more HP and you'll surely blow the block or throw a piston.

Ehh...
Isn't L3 on all the D series trans?
I think it's even on the D16A1 that doesn't even bolt to the D-series block.
The "L3" is the casting code for the case and has tells you nothing about the internal gearing at all.

However, if you look around the passanger side axle hole on the case you will see a casting marking and then some number below it - something like "PL3/3000".
3000 and sometimes 9000 tell you that the case is a large bearing Si case.
PL3/A100 is the smaller bearing used for the DX and Hf gears.
