R18a
i had an 07 civic...got rid of that to start an ef project...just wanna ask if any one shares my opinion that the single cam vtec in that motor is terrible...cause i put it ona dyno and b4 vtec i had 118 to the wheels and than dynoed after vtec and had 136 to the wheels...i realize that the motor has only 140 to the crank and this was dynoed on a mustang dyno one of the better ones on the market...so i saw that the pwoer was there just never felt it...so once again just wanna see if ne one who bought an R18 shares my thoughts on this
I bought my r18 bc i didnt want a used car which might have alot of fixes, dealer gave me 60K warranty bumper to bumper for free and im loving the 36mpg i get city/highway combined. That's the reason for a single cam, fuel efficiency. And, it is a great DD so I'm not complaining. If you bought an R18 to "streetrace" or apply performance-related mods, then you bought the wrong car. A GTI wouldve been better for less money you'd put into the car itself And with the GTI, you'd get warranty.
yea i agree with that...yea the gas mileage was nice once fuel hit 4 a gallon...the only reason i got that cause the SI was like 250 more a month and i was like no thanks i didnt think it was worth that much more...only cause the dealership wouldnt lemme test drive one..once i finally got to drive one i woulda deff payed the more money
"So VTEC-off on the R18A means it can be considered to be running high cams. When the right conditions are acheived for fuel economy, VTEC engages the 2nd set, the 'low' or 'economy' cams. Thus VTEC-on on the R18A means it is running low cams. More importantly is VTEC engages the low-cams only if the right conditions for fuel economy are acheived. If they are never acheived, like when we are driving aggressively for the whole trip for e.g., VTEC will never open on the R18A. Thus it is a completely different idea from the VTEC implementations of old where VTEC will always open after a certain rpm, irregardless of the driving conditions."

it's set up wrong, plastic intake mani, a bigger EGR than the 4-1 in head exhuast port.
the port might sound like god send, but the plastic intake mani blows your wetdreams for a turbocharger, not to mention lack of aftermarket support for engine management.
a simple flange to flange turbo manifold and sheet metal intake manifold can be fabricated, but of lack fuel managment kills. maybe use a vafc but still got the weight issue.
pretty much the crx with a k24 will kill this thing up and down for cheaper

I think in a few years people will start to work on r18's more and more. As of right now, there isn't much an aftermarket following to provide parts for tuning. The Si doesn't even have a decent method of tuning yet. So in time, hopefully, these sohcs will become the boost happy sohcs of previous generations.
Haha, hence the username.

don't have kids...they make you sell things you really like
"interesting" to mod sohc civics? the only way to gain any decent power on sohc civics is to boost it. for the price of a turbo kit on an ex you can buy an si and have money left over. you'll also still have a factory warranty and oem reliability.
Eh anything is possable if you hav money! who said there needs to be something on the market to mod? money is power.. power is money.. but i do say wrong car if you wanted a civic to boot should of gottin an si and if you wanted to mod a car heavly i say get an older car... my '07 and im kinda hazy to mod that thing stockish will do me great for now.. kinda makes me wanna get anouther....

and yes, you have no idea what you're talking about, and yet you still are talking.

everyone has a negative opinion about SOHC civic's because they own an SI. I own an SI but still can respect anyone that puts SERIOUS work into a SOHC.
