What size race wheels?
I'm wandering what size wheels everyone is running i have a 2000 SI and i have all my suspension taken care of. I live in Utah so i get to race on the new Miller track and usually i run my car with the stock Si wheels with BFG G- Force T/A 15 inchers and im gonna purely track wheels with the BFG G-Force R1 tires. what size are you running our there?
Thanks in Advance!
Thanks in Advance!
Lets start off with how much on track experience you have?
I would recommend practicing with sticky street tires first. Build the skill and learn car control before hopping up to r-comps.

I have quite a bit of experiance! Right now i do run on some pretty sticky street tires and my set up is very predictable and i know my car very well. I used to have 2 S2k's, a AP1 with the 16" wheels, and a 04 AP2 with the 17" and i could tell a bigger difference with the 17's. Would you guys recamend sticking with the 15's or going with a 16" and a wider wider wheel? my fenders are rolled and pulled so no problems there! Thanks Guys!

Define quite a bit???
Why would you undersize a S2000's wheel/tires?
What sanctioning body do you want to run in?
Did you do a search before asking this??? I'm sure you'll find the information if you search and read.. read.. read!
In the miller time attack. i dont understand what you mean with the S2000 wheels? do a bigger size wheel improve handling? i have had about 10 track days. yes i have searched and i have not found anything in the rule books about the size of rim, the type of tire you have to use in such comps such as H2. So bottom line does bigger wheels improve handling? and if so what wheels do you recamend?

I think you have to research and find out what sanctioning body you want to run in.
Once you find that out then find out what the CCR's say for that class. I.E time attack.
There are rules for each class.
There are points of contact for each sanctioning body for questions like this.
If its time attack you want to run in then start your search there.
Your questions are vague in as much as you didn't initially tell us what class or body you are running your car in.
There are so many posts about wheels it will make your head spin. If your not finding them, you aren't searching this forum good enough. Simplify your search, read everything.
Excuse me on the S2000 I mispoke... I was only thinking about todays S2000 which come with the 17 inch wheels. The first models used 16's.

Ok now i went back over the rule book for the time attach street class in which i will be running it says nothing on the wheels but it does say "Street Class Front Wheel Drive vehicles are limited to tires with a maximum width of 255." And "All Street Class vehicles must use DOT street tires with a UTQG tread wear rating of 140 or higher." So my original question... Does bigger wheels improve handling and if so what wheels, and what size do you guys recamend? It is a 2000 civic Si
Running street tires you will be limited to what sizes are available and there aret too many. You also need to look at things like tire and wheel weight and the OD of the tire you will be running. If you want to run lets just say a 245/40/17 tire whats its weight and whats its OD. Then what wheel are you going to use and what is its weight? Rotating mass is a quick way to soak up power. Also the OD of the tire is important as it will change how your car accelerates. Smaller tire quicker acceleration. What FD are you running? If its stock I'd stay with a 15. Take a look at the new Kumho XS in the 215/?/16 size...
Best of luck to you and I will say you may want to try searching again as I'm sure all of these basics have been coverd in greater detail many times over.

Alright thank you very much! The reason why i asked is because i was concidering the Konig Heilums in a 16X7.5, becasue they are light, and not very expensive. I was just reading how they tend to crack and things of that nature. How do you guys feel about those wheels?
Step 1: Identify what tire you want to run. Tire sizes and compounds are more limited than wheels. Base this on available widths and diameters.
Step 2: Figure out what size wheel will accomodate those tires. If a particular tire you want is available only in 17" diameter, a 16" wheel won't be good.
Step 3: Spend money.
16" wheels typically have poorer tire choices than 17" or 15" wheels. Heliums (and maybe another Konig or two) have also been known to crack with harsh track use. Using all that information, you should come up with this answer: you're taking a chance buying the wheels, and will be limited in the tires you can run, but it's your money.
FYI, all that information is crap I've learned by searching. I'd bust on you more for that, but this new search engine really does suck. Instead, read through the FAQ at the top of this forum.
Edit: WTF? COME ON! No FAQ anymore either? Jesus, I almost don't blame the noobs.
Alright, I'm feeling charitable. Bigger wheels (with lower profile tires) should feel "crisper" in behavior. They will also feel harsher over bumps. They won't "make your car 'handle' better." The biggest thing you can do to improve vehicle behavior is a good set of tires. The ones you have aren't terrible, but there are better options. Next is a good set of shocks.
If you've actually had 10 events like you claim you should know this, unless for some reason they have no classroom discussion. Or have you just done a bunch of Time Attacks? If THAT'S the case, get to a proper HPDE with instruction, where you'll actually learn something.

Holy smokes your right the search is really sucking.
I entered wheels and 601 pages came back.
That isn't right..

im using 16's cuz the brakes dont clear 15's on a rsx type-s. and would prob use 17's if i can choose again because very shitty choice in tires for 16's after 225 width.
but got a very good deal on some 3pc meshies, weigh only about 15-16pds each, sizes 16x8+32 front, 16x7+32 rear. so cant really complain.
