Suspension rates for drag car
hey guys im lookign to upgrade my suspension. i was wonderign what spring rates would be best for my setup. im looking to get about 700whp in my 99 civic si
ed from progress had me go with 450's in the front and 1000's out back. those are in lbs. not kg.
coming from a shelf progress kit, it is night and day.

Are you referring to the old skunk drag springs? I have used the Omni Power Drag setup and I have ground controls with 1000lb springs in the front 1200lb springs in the back mated with revalved konis, which is working really good for me. I do plan on trying the Progress units, a lot of people appear to be having good results with the progress suspension setups.
we have been running 450 lb front springs and 700 lb rear spring with our Strange Coilovers -- they have worked well for us for the past 3 years
shock dampening is very important as well in addition to just the spring rate -- the shocks do a lot of the work.

bullshit, throw some 200000000 lbs springs in the back and raise it up as high as you can and you will be fine.

i had the off the shelf kit, it worked ok for the 540whp i was making, and even with that power level, ed said i was asking alot out of the shocks.
since i have gotten with them about the spring rates, one of my mid season upgrades were to have the shocks revalved. and i think it is one of the best things/ biggest differences i have noticed.
i had a problem with the car unloadingon a launch and the front staying up. also unloading on shifts.
this is all where the revalving comes into play.
to ed and joey at progress.
well i just became a part of team skunk 2 and wanted to take advantage of that opportunity and was going to use my kyb agx struts with a set of their 14 or 18k rears and was mainly wondering which ones i shud use in the front
the AGX shocks will have no chance of hell keeping up with a 14k or 18k spring rate -- that is what we are all saying, you can put the stiffest spring you want on the car but the dampening will not be able to do its job effectively and will probably hurt you more than help you
if you are looking to still run this setup I would suggest getting Koni Yellow Shocks since they are a bit better right out of the box and with the Koni custom shop you can easily have them revalved in an attempt to match the spring rate if you choose
another issue you will run into using the AGX shocks and a Skunk2 Slip-on Coilover is the height adjustment -- if you set the height of the coilover too high the shock will be extended too much already and won't be able to do its job of dampening at all due to not enough movement - this is why true coilovers can be a better option because of regardless what height you set the vehicle at the shocks will still have the same amount of dampening travel to do their job
there are also great inexpensive full Drag Coilover options on the market from Blox Racing, Omnipower and D2 and although may not be necessarily valved exactly as needed they will do a lot better job than a high spring rate slip on coilover with standard off the shelf performance shock
