New Rear Swaybar Option for G3 Integras
I almost hate to share this, but I promised John I would... So here goes...
I've been working with Saner Performance to develop an affordable, adjustable rear bar for the G3 Integra. I tried the new bar at CMP last weekend and it was fantastic. The only problem is that I can't tell you how effective the adjustments are because I never had to adjust it.
Specs:
- 24mm (you can get bigger or smaller from Saner, but this worked great)
- 3 position adjustable
- Attaches at the base of the shocks (farther outboard = better)
- Endlink length is adjustable
- Endlink design makes binding fairly impossible
He never told me what his final asking price was going to be, but our goal was to keep the piece in the $200 range. I expect that's about what it will be.
I know this bar will fit '94 and up Integras (RS, GS, GSR) and I'm almost certain it will also fit '92 to '95(?) Civic Coupes. It will fit Type Rs as soon as John and Warren **** work out the attachment hardware for the shock mounts.
Call Saner. Ask for John.

I saw the pimpy new swaybar up close and personal, and it's a nice piece. I'll be getting one, hopefully before Lowes. Bah...why not mess with the car during a weekend where there's lots of concrete to hit?
Seriously...it's nice and I'll be getting one. Might also spring for one (front) for Mom's MR2 Spyder (I know he's been working on that one for a while now and it's 'right').

Oh yeah, and his asking price, since some of us actually have to pay
is extremely reasonable. Less than $200.

Scott's R&D work on the Saner swaybar...
"Wow. This is sweet. I'll keep it."
Hey. It coulda been harder. Really

Talk to Dan or Aaron (or Eric) before getting that front bar. Make sure you really want to go through the hassle of installing it on your mom's daily driver...
The Saner bar will go right in, it's the stock one that will not come right out. Minimum, make Aaron help you with it, he's at least done the job before.

Had some hardware issues. The bar fits, but the mounting on an ITR is still being worked out.
Always the last minute... More parts are arriving today. Gotta race at Lowes on Saturday/Sunday
I've run on the 26mm Mugen for 2 weekends, so I should be able to compare. Motion ratios are different, since it's mounted further outboard, so it's difficult to compare the two. I'm still not sure whether this makes it more effective or not. I know it makes it more sensitive to wheel movements. Scott, jump in here, I'm drowning

I don't know the answer without doing some math. I say buy the biggest bar he'll make, and the further outboard the better on the pickups (the shock mounting sounds good, I'm looking forward to seeing pictures).
Scott, who will probably buy or make a secksy new rear bar for next year.....

I agree that further outboard makes sense to keep it more effective in terms of it being effective for small side to side movements, but I'm not sure if that means you need to use a bigger or a smaller bar to come up w/ the same torsional rigidity of a 26mm at the stock locations.
Anyhow, if this one isn't stiff enough, I can get Saner to come up w/ another

Taking liberties: smaller bar with better motion ratio = bigger bar with poorer motion ratio. Where better motion ratio means the wheel has less leverage over the bar (or spring).
Scott, who wants a bigger bar with a better motion ratio....

The Saner bar attaches at the base of the shocks. Thus the problem Warren has stumbled into. Saner used my car to develop the bar, and neither me nor they realized the typeR had different lower rear shock attachments than the GSR. Now, thanks to Warren's "Hey... this chit don't fit" experience, we all know.
I'm damned happy with the 24mm. The car has never felt so stable yet rotatable (is this a word?). But, if you want a 26mm... He'll make you a 26mm. Hell, he'll make a 30mm if that's what you want.
After this weekend, the TypeR fitment issue should be resolved and Warren can add his feedback.

that's a little scary that the people that made this bar didn't know the Type-R has different control arms and shock mounting points.. How do you begin making suspension components for the g3 Integra without knowing the differences between the different g3 models?
How has this bar been tested besides you driving around with it on your car? very scary, and good luck to people that buy this bar.. I can see the mounting hardware and bolts flying around at the track or auto-x events if this bar is not properly tested with mucho forces exerted on it. I almost always find a sway bar bolt or endlink bolt that has fallen off a car, while working at auto-x events or when walking the course. And these are probably "reputable" bars. Imagine this one..

Please. Let's not get carried away here. This isn't rocket science, and all it takes is some good engineering. Yeah, I had some fitment problems at first, since they didn't have an ITR to test with, but it worked great last weekend. No problems. Parts didn't scatter all over the track (at least not swaybar parts).
Short stroke suspensions with high spring rates tend not to over work subframes and swaybars. That is what this is. A race part.

Oh Boy.
Swaybars for race cars are fairly simple. Really. And Jon has built hundreds, maybe thousands (by hand). He didn't know it wouldn't fit the TypeR because he didn't have one to fit to. That's where Warren came in. Now the bar fit a Type R and a GSR. And it fits well.
See, this is a custom race part. Not a mass produced pimpy-assed part you can buy from NOPI. Experimentation is part of the game.
Don't criticize things you don't understand.
