Default h22 balancer shaft question

i am currently assembling my h block and ran into a problem. i was planning on just installing the balancer shafts but not connecting them, as far as i know this is an acceptable route to eliminating them. however, when i put the rear shaft in i found it was slightly bent, causing the shaft to bind slightly but it still turns over. i bought the longblock and the guy said it had a knock but the machine shop didnt find anything wrong with crank, rods or pistons but i didnt give them the balancer shafts so im sure this is wat was wrong with the motor to begin with. so can i just put the bent shaft back in and not hook it up? i know this may cause vibrations...doesnt bother me

technically i would think you could since its not spinning. Personally I would just block it off and use the kit.

ha the kit would be in if i found out about the shaft before the motor was fully rebuilt. so is there anyone who says this cannot be done?

It SHOULD be fine but I'm not sure if the shaft itself blocks or re-routs the oil in any way. I personally run with them disconnected, as do many people, and there's no problem

from what i understand, the shafts DO create back-pressure so completely removing them would cause you to have no oil pressure, however they dont have to be spinning to do so from what i can see sooooo motor goes in next weekend ill let you know how it goes lol

yes the h23 and h22 timing gears are different.the balancing shaft can be done sevearl ways.

1-turn the bal. shaft bearing so that it blocks the oil and run the block off plate or make one.

2-use the bal. shafts "but do not make them functional"where they spin".

3-block the oil passage going from the girdle to the bal. shaft "i think it is 2 holes"
but i'm not sure.

all the bal. shafts do is keep grandma's *** from shaking at a red light.hope this helps
