Default Installing Garrett CHRA in No name Housing?

I just recently bought a car and i have found that the turbo installed was not what was supposed to be on the car. I was told it was a precision t3/t4 .60 but its a knock off. The housing has no stampings or indications of any company manufacturing it. The turbo bolts (where the inducer and exducer housings bolt to the CHRA) back out and SLIGHTLY rubbed the wheels. Now I'm finding no shaft movement but when the car idles for a little bit or has been drove for a about 10 miles it starts to smoke and at idle and when you let off the gas. I also found oil in my hot pipe so I'm sure the seals are crap.

here is my question. I'm searching for a budget fix yet reliable. I know you can buy Garrett housings seperate. Whats to say I cant use these knock off housings with a quality CHRA. This will give me the reliability of garrett or who ever but at around 650-700 instead of a new Turbo...

ANY information would be awsome!!

Raymond

If you looked really hard though all the "are ebay turbos good" threads in the archives, you'd find the money shot - the thread that showed all the failed ebay turbos. Most of them just have dead CHRA's, but some have had the housings crack badly. I recall one comp housing sheered apart once the EPOXY holding together the 2 halves broke.

I don't know what you're paying for a naked CHRA, but I do know you could probably sell the genuine housings and end up paying less overall for the CHRA. However, I would strongly suggest you use the genuine housings instead of selling them, or reusing the CDM crap.

well the turbo spools fine and I've been spooling for about 3 months at 15 psi and if the housings have held up this long I feel like they are worth salvaging. I'm not getting a naked chra I'm gettign a fully ballanced chra.... I'm just wondering what my options are for fitting a geniun garrett or precision in these housings...

and as far as effeciency, I'm not worried about PEAK peformance out of the turbo. I just want it to perform well and be reliable. I'm not looking for huge power gains just an edge...

yeah I have found a killer deal on an HX35W so I may be going with a different turbo. I just hate to have to retune the car...
