intake manifold porting????
does anyone kno what porting the intake manifold porting would do. i seen a ported intake manifold on craigslist, just curious about what kind of power gains i would get
Its not much of a power gain, It does help the motor run a little smoother though. I would recomend only port matching if your going to do it though. Alot of people just dig it out thinking the bigger they make it the better, but this is not always true.
wen u say port matching do u mean porting the head and intake mani.???
yeah, lay the gasket on the manifold with all holes lined up and use a fine tip sharpie or equivilant and trace the insides of the gasket onto the manifold. i'm planning on going to sears tomorrow and buying a dremel tool to do my own. i'm curious as to how this will turn out also. now i have a question also, will porting the throttle body cause it to choke itself or will that depend on how much i take off of that and the manifold. first time in building a motor by myself and would like to do EVERYTHING by myself. sorry to thread jack dude!
I think port matching is not much help on the manifold itself unless you do it on the head intake ports too. But if there are some machining or casting flaws you can get to , then its probably worthwhile and its good practice.
I recently changed my A6 intake manifold for a Z6 mani. They are very similar, but the Z6 has slightly shorter, straighter, fatter runners. The result was a loss of the big torque bump in the mid range, but an added pull in the upper rpms where the A6 mani would just "wheeze" a bit.
