Default Difference between 94-97 98-01 B18c1

I was wondering if you can tell the difference between the two engine from the visable piont of view, like if you looking at the engine can you tell a difference, are the markings on the head different?

94-95 are OBD1 and 96-01 are OBD2

It depends on what all is there. The injectors on the OBD1 have little metal clips where as the OBD2 are just normal pugs. You could run the numbers of course. I can't remember what else would stand out to me. Hope that helps some.

Thanks, J

Most 96 up OBDII GSR's had a VIN # on the block where 94-95 didn't. Also look for a crank angle sensor on the 96+ engine. It can be identified by a black wire loom running down the back of the block behind the timing belt cover. It goes into the cover behind the harmonic balancer. I hope that helps....

94-95 = OBDI
96-Up = OBD II

94-95 had only 1 O2 sensor, 96-up has an O2 sensor on the header and the cat.
94-95 IAB's required a negative signal to trigger as opposed to OBDII which requires a positive 12V signal. That's all I can think of right now.
