The same proceedures which work for domestic engines can work for Japanese engines as well.
The most direct approach would be displacement and compression improvements. A .020" overbore with a piston selection increasing compression would be my first choice.
I would also gasket match both the head, intake manifold and exhaust for better flow.
I would round it out with a set of premium bearings and a high volume oil pump.

It's a traditionsl swap which carries a lot of romance with it. Who can resist that wide valve cover and those two cams?
It will help out with upper end breathing, but will not improve performance much below 3500 rpm.
I would suggest reading up on the swap threads which have been published in the FAQ section of this forum (second or third line on the 1st page) before you entertain this.

This may help:

VTEC (which stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is an electronic and mechanical system in some Honda engines that allows the engine to effectively have multiple camshafts. As the engine moves into different rpm ranges, the engine's computer can activate alternate lobes on the camshaft and change the cam's timing. In this way, the engine gets the best features of low-speed and high-speed camshafts in the same engine.

Short but sweet
