Silicone hose and coolant=safe?
When I bought my R, it came with an AEM already installed. As most of you know, a lot of folks run a hose from the crankcase vent to the intake nipple on the AEM pipe right before the throttle body. Once you take out that metal contraption (the only reason I can see for its design is because Honda wanted to actually heat the air going to the intake!) , you have a coolant line that needs to be reattached. Well, I picked up some high temp silicone hose and used some between the crankcase vent and AEM pipe, as well as some to patch up the coolant connected from the head to the intake manifold. My question, is it safe to run coolant through this type hose? (checked on the box, they didn't say anything). Or is this hose only good for moving air/vacuum? It does say "high temp" but who knows what they are considering high temp. Would a rubber hose be a better choice for that coolant connection to the intake manifold? Thanks.
High temp silicone is very stable and chemical resistent. I don't see a problem with it. I run silicone tubing from the PCV to the intake manifold. It should easliy withstand 195C.
Thanks for the info. I noticed that the hose is very pliable, much more so than the rubber counterparts. I'm glad I can leave it in 'cause I scrapped the **** outta my knuckles getting it in there!
