Well, I am in the market for a good Tig welder. My options thus far are as follows: Diversion 165, Synchrowave 200 OR 250DX, and the Dynasty 200. My main goal is to have a machine that I won't need to upgrade later on. I would much rather buy the proper machine the first time. I am really leaning towards the SW 200 but I continue to ask myself if I should just get the 250DX. I will only be using this machine to work on cars. Manifolds, downpipes, IC piping, exhausts, brackets, and so forth. I want to be able to make any modification to a car and I want the proper machine that can handle the job. With the 165 I feel as though I am gonna want something more in a short period of time. I also ask myself if the 250DX is just over kill and I will probably never utilize that machine to its maximum potential. So, here I am torn between pretty much the Dynasty 200 and the SW 200. Is it worth it spending that much more on the Dynasty? Please help me decide I want to start welding, like TODAY..
for the things you listed id say the diversion is just the ticket. the syc 200 will draw more power. but ive had no problem with mine. it works great
cant beat the price to

i just bought a sw 200.. i was in the same boat u are in i was orginally going to get the diversion 165 but thought i would out grow the machine very quickly. so i went with the sw 200 and couldnt be happier! does everything i need to do, which is the same u are looking to use it for and still is not maxed out.

Is wiring the SW200 as simple as adding a 50amp breaker and an outlet? That reminds me, the welder will be used at home. Its going to be my new hobby... Yay, I'm excited.

I was checking out that 165 today at my local store and I'll admit, its a nice machine. The way I see it is the SW 200 is only 500 more so why not just get that since it will most likely do anything I'll ever need it to do. Also, the 165 doesn't have a foot pedal so thats more money on top of its price. The SW 200 at 1,995.00 comes complete with all that already. I found the SW 200 for 1,995.00, can anyone recommend somewhere cheaper?
you should go with either the dynasty or the sync200, the 250 is overkill for the parts you plan on making and the diversion will not have enough power for intercoolers.
if the majority of your welding is going to be aluminum then get the dynasty it will save you money on your electric bill and frequency control is awesome, if you're mostly going to weld steel/ss and occasionally do aluminum then go with the sync200 the money saved over the dynasty can go toward your equipment/consumables like your welding helmet, gloves, tungsten, argon tank, different size/shape tig nozzles, different tig wires... **** adds up quick for first time welders.

I'll be getting a TA 185, the only downside to it against the Dynasty is the lack of use on a 115 outlet. However for 1500 dollars less...ummm that's a no brainer lol
I talked to the guys at Thermal Arc and they said is will only pull 30 amps at the wall @ 185 amps and to break it for 50 amps. Which for me means slapping a bigger breaker in the dryer outlet for now. Which saves money over a non inverter type which would need a bigger service at the wall, in which I would need to pay someone to come in and take care of.
The diversion is nice, but for a little bit more money the TA 185 will be with ya for longer. It's 2050 shipped from ebay (IOC) with everything you need.

I say thermal arc 185 or dynasty 200 all the way. The sync 200 is good ,but you get alot more control with the dynasty and thermal arc. They also use less current then the big transformer machines. I personally own the thermal arc 185 and I couldnt be more happy with it. The only downside to it compared to the dynasty is that you cant use 120v ,but im sure you couldnt pull many amps out of an ordinary 120 volt outlet anyway. Someone should make a sticky thread comparing all these machines.

What features does the Dynasty 200 have that the SW 200 doesn't??
Thanks for the info guys, helps a bunch to get experienced welders opinions.

I own a few of the above mentioned welders...
IMO the main difference between the dynasty and syncrowave's is the arc stability with the dynasty. Very smooth and clean.
I don't really pay much attention to the features, nor do i even know how to use most of them, i just weld

I have the dynasty 200 and it is awesome! I scored it off craigslist for 2300 with all the accessories and only 5 hours of use on it. I had been taking a tig class for about 3weeks before I bought this welder. It is so much easier to use than the big machines at school that I just dropped the class and practice at home. I was debating between the sync200 and the TA185 before i picked this one up but I was leaning more towards the TA185 because of the almost 200lb difference. The dynasty is definately worth the money.

At this point I am leaning towards the Dynasty 200DX. For a few reasons. Thw power consumption, portability, and welding strength and durability. Its going to cost me more, quite a bit more I might add but in the long run it will save me the extra money that was spent.
Does anyone have any dislikes regarding the Dynasty models? Should I buy the machine and get a different torch or would it be best to buy the machine with torch package? Thanks guys I appreciate any and everyone's input.

I have had my TA185 for about 2 years with no issue. Welds nice, easy set up. Low draw inverter. Its a great pick.
