rim and tire qustion

Default rim and tire qustion

i just bought some 17 in motegi racing rims with 215/40 tires one weighed in at about 35 lbs is that heavy?

They're 17" wheels, of course they're going to weigh 35lbs. I wouldn't say that's ~heavy though.

With the tire, that's not that heavy. Without....they must be made of lead.

Because rims that big belong on an escalade not a civic...

For a more technical answer its probably because they are cast and not forged. Motegi's aren't the highest end rims out there...

They still shouldn't weigh 35lbs a wheel without the tire. I'll assume it's with the tire....hopefully. If it's with the tire, that's not so bad. Consider that the tire probably weighs like 15-18lbs or so....

yea its with tire. i looked online and found a rim similar style and same size that they say weighed 20lbs. anyone have a clue what a stock 13 in rim and tire woulda weighed?

motegi track lites arent heavy at all... either are LC5's <--- i think thats the name... and motegi is a decent brand name for wheels...

The stock 13'' rim and tire probably weighed in at around 25-30lbs. However, all that weight was massed towards the hub instead of away from it.

Physics states that if two objects have an equal mass (30lbs), the one with the mass that is farthest away from a central axis point will have the higher moment of inertia.

Simply put....it's harder to spin a 17'' wheel that weighs 30lbs than a 13'' wheel that weighs 30lbs.
