My RSX type S story, and some questions for the tech guys??
Hello Honda-Tech,
Well I am the new owner of an 02 RSX type S DSM. Here is the my story.
6 months ago my 92 EG was stolen from infront of my house. It was my fault I forgot to put my car up for the night and fell asleep. Well this was the 2nd time my car was stolen and It was a pretty big loss. JDM ITR Red recaros, JDM ITR rear seats, full 00' Si B16a2 swap, rotas (oh well haha), stero, bla bla bla yall know how it goes.
Well I decided not to give in to the thieves and rebuild my car. Found a good deal on a GSR swap from a friend, threw some SI seats in there to roll around on, and finally put my suspension setup that I had been piecing together for 2 years on. Omni power full coilovers (10k,8k), asr sub frame brace (anodized black) with ITR rear sway bar and beaks lower tie bar, 1st Gen Omni power gold LCA's and full 00' si disc brakes. I basically tore the motor apart and rebuild it replacing every gasket in the process because I HATE oil leaks!!! I finally finished all that and had a decent EG again
..........until our local jackers decided to pay me a visit for the 3rd time about 1 1/2 weeks ago
I went inside for 20 mins to check something on the net b4 I went to a friends house and when I came back out it was gone!
The car still hasn't been found, but I decided that its just not safe to daily drive an EG around here because I can't watch it 24/7. Luckily I found a REALLY GOOD DEAL on an 02 RSX type S....Car is in great shape and drives like its on rails! Not to mention the lil bonus I found after I purchased the car
!!!!!!!!!
The guy I bought the car from buys cars from local auctions and sells them as fast as he can. And me being a B-series guy through and through...I had basically no knowledge on K-series motors other than what the look like and that they came 2.0 and 2.4. Well I knew that the car was supposed to come with a K20A2 but no matter how hard I looked at the damn block stamp I couldn't see the damn 2 at the end ????.......Thats right haha it came with a JDM ITR K20A!!!! not to mention an RBC manifold. So as you can imagine I am pretty pleased with my purchase haha
Anyways enough rambling. I do have a few questions for the RSX techs, and yes i've searched here and clubrsx and k20a.org for the answers but to no avail. I am throwing CEL's P0141(secondary o2) and P1457 (Evap Canister System)
1)I heard that running the RBC manifold with an 02-04 Harness and 02-04 type s ECU will cause me to throw a CEL since it doesn't run 1 sensor that the normal PRC manifold does? I have one plug (black with 2 wires) near my throttle body that is not connected to a sensor will this cause CEL P1457?
2) The previous owner of the car didn't have the correct secondary o2 sensor in the cat (its not long enough and the plug is different). If I just extend the wires and get a donor plug will this work or does the secondary o2 need to be the "correct" o2?
3) Kpro is all the rage I know, but on this car i'm trying to stay low key and keep it a Daily driver, the JDM ITR motor was just a bonus
. Anyways I heard that running the RBC manifold on a stock fuel map will cause me to run lean. Do I need up the fuel or will the stock map work fine with this manifold?
4) Is there anyways to tell what year my motor was manufactured? Like a stamp or something? I can't just look up the vin cause its a JDM motor...thus no vin on the back below the half shaft. On B-series there is a stamp on the head that will tell you, but I'm not familiar with k-series yet.
Thanks guys I hate sounding like a noob but I've always been able to rely on Honda-Tech in the past, so going K shouldn't make a difference haha.

1) The RBC will not throw a check engine light on a type-s. There are no specific manifold sensors like on the base RSX manifold with the dual runners. All the sensors should swap over no problem.
2) I wouldn't trust using that 02 sensor. The secondary reads differently than the primary. So if thats not the right one hooking it up could cause a reading incorrectly problem. I'd buy a new one.
3) RBC has been known to make it run leaner with other mods but lots of people have chanced it and just put it on without re-tuning it. I don't recommend this at all though.
k-pro is a great thing to have and doesn't make the key any less "low key" lol
4) I'll have to look at the couple of engines I have cause i don't remember the date stamp

Thanks for the advice man
BTW I saw an "02 RBC" on my oil pan...i dunno if that is a date stamp or what, but its a start on where to look haha

Dyno it or start tearing **** apart and getting part numbers...The Rsx weighs in at around 2650...You're 'Teg only weighed 1650? That seems really really light...I would think that if it was the Type R engine it wouldn't feel sluggish in the Rsx...I had a chart of the listed k20a engines...If I find it I will post it in here.
you also should be able to tell by the ecu, i cant remember but i think the jdm ecu is prc, maybe some1 else can correct me on that. But if its really a legit k20a glad you got it man after having your cars stolen you deserve to get a deal like that. Good look with it and happy modding.
Well I had a hatch not a teg... And I just rounded the weight diff haha... But yea I'm not tearin the block apart just to figure out the specifics on my motor.
The sluggishness is partially due to the oldass clutch on the motor right now... I can feel it slipping a bit. But whatever I'm pleased with the car! It's gonna be a daily driver so I'm not really worried about being fast
