Hood Modification...Word!!
Hey My Fellow Crx Lovers!!
I just put a GSR engine in my 2nd gen Rex and the **** hood is hitting the valve cover. (well its pretty darn close anyway..about 1/8 inch away!)
Yes Yes I did cut the ribbing out of the hood and Yes the engine is mounted with Hasport Mounts particulary for this swap. But it is still to close for comfort!
1/8 th inch is too close. What happens when the motor torques a little? It will hit the hood. I understand they are polyurethane bushing but they still have a little give!!
Anyway: to my point...What do I do? I don't see all the other crx's with the hood cut out and I cant afford a VIS carbon hood that alots for the extra head space.
thanks everyone!!

if your really concerned you can raise the hood by adding washers on the hinges, but with the hasport mounts i dont think there will be too much worry about it torquing, lol.
good idea. even though my body work is nowhere complete i'm not sure if I like the idea of the hood being a little off set, ya know? Is every one else's b18c that darn close to the hood?
p.s. thanks 93formula..you've helped me before!

oh, lol no problem, well im personally not a fan of the raised hood thing but a lot of eg turbo guys do it and some ef guys too i guess, apparantly to lower under hood temps from turbo setups.
im sure someone else has run into this problem, maybe its because the crx front end slopes down more then the hatch models?? or maybe because where the hasport mounts place the engine/trans? ive got a b18 stuffed under my hood for now, but im using yonaka mounts. come to think of it we just put a b16 into a crx and it did not have clearance issues, we used a hasport mount kit as well, so maybe its not going to be an issue, just seems close?

Turbo!!! now we're talking!!!...soon enough, first I have to resolve my hood issue!! LOL!!!! There has to be a simple explanation. I've heard that the JDM hoods are reversed.. I mean that the center part of the hood is inverted compared to the U.S. so the center part is raised. I wonder if thats true and what the price is for one of those.
yeah you can use those i like the way they look, but we just stuffed a b16 into a crx recently using hasport mounts as well and it did not have any issues, if yours actually hitting the hood or seems like it will hit?
no its not hitting but i can barely push on the hood and i can hear it "tap". I would say it's only an eight an inch from hitting.. I know the Hasport mounts are good but what about a dip in the road at 30 or 60 miles an hour?

thats what a buddy told me. we planned on doing a ZC swap together but he was saying he'd need a hood that popped upwards instead of inwards. and it doesnt look bad at all. and i think the price range isnt all that bad.(someone correct me if im wrong)
your suspension should take care of that, LOL i wouldnt worry about it. when you come across the hood you want get it, but for now it wont be a problem.
the rex we stuffed the b16 into had a dohc zc in it prior, stock hood, no clearance issues....i do prefer them lookwise but its not a needed object....
lol so do i! with ground control, LOL i love them so far, but yeah dont worry about it. think about it though your motor wont be jumping up and down on the mounts your suspension will handle that and if your car goes up and down so does your hood, but if you want to pull a bo or luke duke be my guest, LOL...
lol well you can get a dummy hood and put it on some stands at home and go to town on it?? just park your car next to it so when you run out the back door you can slide on the dummy hood then jump into your car....thats what id do...infact id do it as i entered the house too..LOL
I cant wait..still have to wire engine. I removed the accord gas tank that was PVC'd in and bought a new tank I still have to replace. I had the motor in my old Integra that found its way on the roof!!!!! UGLY...anyway..It was fast so I can't wait to see how fast it is in something 600 pounds lighter
oh it will suprise a lot of vehicles!! LOL i remember we walked an actual gsr teg and hes like what you got in there, were like you first, hes like gsr, we laughed and replies gsr as well, LOL 8K shifts FTW!!
