Default Rocker arm assembly not lined up

I just got done putting it back together.
Heres what I am puzzled about. I pulled off the valve cover to replace the gasket. BEFORE I pulled the rocker arm assembly, I noticed that one of the rockers was not at all over top of the valve stem. In fact it was shifted over into the adjacent rocker.
When I loosened it out it did pop back into place.
I got it all back together and started up the car and the engine seemed great. It seemed much smoother than before.

Any ideas on the rocker being shifted over?
