After looking at Stretch7's vintage kick-and-go, it reminded me of these crazy/cool little scooters from the early 80's. One of the only true "transformer's".

The Honda Motocompo is a tiny folding scooter sold by Honda 1981-1983.

The Motocompo was introduced as a "Trunk Bike" to fit inside subcompact cars like the Honda Today and the new Honda City. The handlebars, seat, and foot-pegs fold into the scooter's rectangular plastic body to present a clean, box-shaped package of 1185 mm L × 240 mm W x 540 mm H. Honda's initial sales projection for the domestic market was 8,000 City and 10,000 Motocompo.In all, 53,369 Motocompos were sold by the end of production in 1983.

Now THAT is awesome. And it appears to fit snuggly in the hatch of that 2nd gen. I need to look for that.

 

Very cool. I've seen these for sale on the Japan Yahoo Auctions from time to time. Do you have this here in the USA? If so, where did you find it, or did you have it imported?

 

Wow, that makes me want one just seeing it in the back of the Civic... Might have to try and find one of those!

 

I don't think that's a 2nd gen Civic though, it's either a City or Today, as OP mentioned above.

 

I'm sure this was never sold in North America, they are truly unique.

Apparently there was one on eBay last March. It was BNIB, but had a cost of $3,500.

 

WHAT! I would gladly pay $3500 for a BRAND NEW one!

Here's the brochure with all the specs and some sweet retro 80's action photos. I want a pair of these in the "championship white" lol, these would look sweet in the back of my 1985 wagovan.
Also notice in the first pic the one on the far right,with the sweet blue storage cover and what looks like a shoulder strap for transport. But why is there a phone on the tree??

what's strange is that there are non japanese people in a full japanese ad.

actually, if you go to honda of japans website right now, pretty much all the cars have american plates. the integra type R has a new york plate....

 

I like how in the one add they are making it look like a coffee table with a pineapple on it! Haha!

 

Yeah i noticed that in other honda/jdm brochures as well, it's a strange idea, but.........you can't argue with the fact that there marketing methods do work.

The pineapple seems to be a reacurring theme as well ......i count two, i also like the guy in the scuba gear(looks like he smuggling grapes) imagine that one peice wet-suit booking down the street, sporting that yellow brain bucket, oxygen bottle on his back.....ROFL

 

It's true! Their TV ads are the same way. And they use tons of SUPER famous American actors too. Like the Michael J Fox Integra ads, Jodie Foster with the Civic Ferio ads, and Harrison Ford in the Legend ads. The actors keep it on the down low over here for some reason. I guess while it's a big-shot thing to do in Japan, in the US, doing a commercial is like low-end, sell out acting. So they don't want their reputations hurt.

I did some checking, and it would seem like I can get a used one bought and shipped to the US for right around $1,000. Anyone want one?

 

Wow yes. How soon would we have to come up with the money? Would they be street licensable? I'd love to have it to pull out of the trunk of the Accord at autocross to scoot up and down the paddock!
