Quick cheap mods
What cheap mods are there that'll give me minor boosts of HP? So far I'm thinking Intake/Chip but I don't know what else. I thought about putting really big civic type R stickers all over my car, you know, each one adds about 5 horse power, but then I decided the apalling appearance kind of outweighed the HP gain.

I have a standard hatchback so I don't have any weight as it is. But so far I'm getting the a/c unit removed since it doesn't work anyway, I'm planning on getting an AEM intake and a chip at Autothority. I just got my exhaust replaced so I don't really feel like getting that done, maybe down the road. I was thinking about getting a new tru power pulley kit from AEM, but will that really do anything for me?
Wouldn't a faster shift throw allow the driver to engage into gear at a higher rpm?
Also, why would a shortshifter grenade ur tranny faster? Same procedure of clutch and shift no?

If you have a standard, no mod is going to do SQUAT without doing an MPFI swap first!!! MPFI will make a big difference!! that little TB on the DPFI is a bottleneck!
I know, I've tried.

Hey, standard isn't too bad
I've won every race with another civic so far except for one guy. I'm just trying to get a little bit more out of it. I was thinking about getting a supercharger but I have 150K miles and don't want to put the little guy through it.

Short Shifter is very hard on the syncros if you are one to slam a shifter around. Its common knowleges. It effectively almost double the speed of your shifts through mechanical advantage. Thats how the Syncos get abused, and the shift forks. IF you slam it around.

I'm running a sts myself, and a short ram intake and exhaust made no noticable difference in performance because of the small throtle body of the std manifold. After I swapped on an MPFI mani, it was like a whole new engine.

RE: YOur question... a junkyard turbo setup can be dome for anywhere form 300-700 bucks... more if you really want to make some power. It's well worth it too.. do some research on it!
