Default d16y7 vs d16y8 Help Me out.

i know the difference but i have a few questions. i have a y8 in my car rite now and the bottom end died on me on xmas day. I found a y7 engine locally for 200 bux so i was wondering if i can put the y8 head on the y7 block and if so what do i need to order to do so. i know i need a new head gasket and head bolts, but what ones do i order it from. the y7 or y8? also will the y8 h20 pump and tstat work on the y7. what is the differnce between them besides ones vtec and ones not. please help me out call me or txt or pm or reply.
thanks

it will work, but is it really worth the headache? IMHO I don't think so, just keep looking and find a y8 thats complete, rather than putting a mutt together

but yes it will work, everything from the y8 will swap over...

Very easy swap, pump will work, tstat will work timing belt is the same. head gasket same
id suggest ARP head bolts but stock will work fine ( i used arp for my mini me) also a y7block y8 head.

You have to make sure to take the knock sensor from your y8 to the y7 block, the hole is already set just unscrew from y8 and put into y7 .

It will save you alot of money by doing it then gettin a new y8 swap.

over all you will get a slight TQ and HP boost from it also.

The y7 has the hole threaded for the knock sensor?
I never knew that.

Yah, the block of the y7 and y8 is the same, the only thing i think is different is the pistons and maybe rods. I dont know the tech specs on them tho.

Yeah, its not that hard if you have all of the tools, one time my ex spun a rod bearing on her D16z6 and I found another block for $100, took the engine out, swaped the head over when it was all out of the car (so deal with the timing belt and all of that outside of the engine bay) and put it back in, whalla, saved money. It ended up working out great.

It takes quite longer then 30 min to change a rod bearing.

if u spun a bearing and u just change the bearing dont expect it to last to long.... u most likly damaged the crank

it turns out he didnt spin a bearing. But if he had it would have been spun while it was at idle and the car only ran 1 time since then so the crank would have been fine.

This is a good little writeup for Y7/Y8 mini-me. Pictures are down but the information is still valid. Hopefully it helps a bit.
