Icon6 INFO and TIPS on replaceing ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN after THEFT!

Picking up my car this week from the shop that i had rebuild my head after the car was stolen and am going to be replacing the complete steering column due to f%cking thieves. Obviously the ignition is broken but before i took it to the shop i noticed that the tilt mechanism does not work and the blinker/headlight/wiper levers are all tilted to the left. Basically the bent parts of the steering column when steeling it. So i got a good deal on a complete steering column including ignition, oem keys, steering wheel and all from the same year and model civic (99 civic SI) for $80 shipped and was going to have them put it in but they want to charge me $300 to do it.

Im not sure because i just realized i dont have the Helms manual for my car but the "Haynes" manual which does not cover the topic of steering column removal, but from what i have read, there are only 3 bolts to change out the column?

I have searched and to no avail have not found the info I need. Anyone have any info or tips on this job. Anything will help because i need to pic up the car this week and i do not have a place to store the car til i get the security problems fixed such as the ignition or the alarm so i will basically have the car towed to my apartment and by the end of the day have to have the ignition and alarm fixed to a can sleep and night and find my car where i left it parked.

THanks

its pretty easy to do... remove steering wheel.. remove plastic around column and also that plastic above where your knee would be... from there its pretty simple swap.. theres a screw like a 10mm i believe near the pedal area that connects the steering column to the steering rack.. later when you swap out the column just keep an eye on the notch where the bolt goes thru. i believe its covered by a piece of rubby-plastic.. also there is 2 10mm that need to be removed that are above your knee area also.
1-10 its a 4 and should take you 30-45 mins depending on how many cigs u smoke,. gl

Thanks for the info, $300 just sounds like a rip off.

It's not hard at all. Getting the guts out of the ignition switch is not easy, but it can be done.

Yah i would think that getting all the electronics off of the steering column would be difficult but thats why i bought a steering column with everything already on it. I should just be able to unplug the connectors and unbolt the old steering column to remove it and simply bolt the new one in and re-connect all the connectors and done. Oh and i will have to transfer over my airbag.

Sounds pretty straight forward but does anyone have any pics or links to the bolts that will need to be removed to take out the steering column? I know about the two on the very bottom that connect the spline to the rack itself but am unsure about the rest. Any links or pics would be helpful.
