Information on HX and VX models
I feel very noobolicious asking this but.
Can some one tell me a bit about HX and VX models?
I am trying to help out a friend buying a car, but I couldn't tell him anything about the HX or VX.
While were at it if you can, you might as well tell me about each model.
I now know of Si, EX, LX, DX, CX, HX, VX, HF? are there any more?!

Essentially, the HX and VX are like the CRX HF.
The VX was a trim level for the hatch from 92-95. It was designed so that it would get optimal gas mileage using the VTEC-E system. Instead of increasing performance at higher RPM like the standard VTEC, it would increase low RPM efficiency to create a swirl effect in the combustion chamber to increase gas mileage. IIRC it was a pretty basic car and really didn't come with many options.
In 96-00 the VX returned but came as a coupe in HX trim. This vehicle also used the VTEC-E system also. I believe this came with a lot more options though and had most of the options that the EX minus the power sunroof and regular VTEC system. Also it had it's own special wheels to set it apart from all other trim levels.
If you want pure gas mileage, HF, VX, and HX are the trims you want. If you want power, you'll want an EX or Si model. If you want cheap and good on gas, go with the DX or CX. If you want options but not as expensive and 4 doors, go with the LX.

There's actually a civic SE that everyone seems to forget about. It's like a 99-00 LX sedan, but it has painted trim. (I think)
VX/HX are the fuel economy versions. They have alloy wheels because they are lighter and more efficient. Many pieces on the VX that are usually cast steel have been replaced with aluminum. Such as the AC and alternator brackets. HX/VX are VTEC-E
VX is 92 hp
HX is 115 hp
Manual Transmissions:
the 92-95 vx has the same transmission as the 92-95 cx, with the long *** 3.25 final
the 96-00 hx has the same transmission as the 96-00 cx hatch, however it uses the same larger transmission case as the 96-00 ex.
Automatic trans:
there was no automatic VX, but the automatic HX trans' is a CVT and is very problematic.

Thanks for reminding me of that Bense.

Yea, it was one of the only back then that was using a CVT transmission. If you've ever driven one, you'd go insane at how boring and stupid it is.
It's also based on the Civic DX, not the LX. It added A/C, painted moldings and door handles, remote power locks, an armrest, and a CD player to the DX.
Kind of like an LX without power windows, power mirrors, chrome window trim, a tach, or a CD player.
It's actually called a Civic VP (indicating Value Package), not an SE.

^^^yes sir. you can see most of the construction workers around here driving the CNG 7th gen civics. i tell them they're retarded cuz the leave them on idling all day. it's honestly no better to leave those idling all day than it is to just drive the normal ones and turn them off when you get there

The DX-Vs I've seen seem to have different parts of the trim painted/unpainted.
Here's the '96-'00 US trim difference thread though.
