Default Which one is it?

I was just thinking about something...

The Type R that I was looking at, with a rebuilt title an the b18c1 gsr motor.. It was a redhead. Is there any way to tell if it was painted or if its an ITR head? I am under the impression that the b18c1-c5 bottom end is the same an that the top end is what was hand done/polished/blah blah to squeaze the extra hp out, so if that is an ITR top end, I would be ok I think..

Oh an also. They emailed an lowered it to 6k plus my car (8k total)

The valve covers can be changed so it has nothing to do with it being red a b16 can have a red vavle cover . easiest way to tell if it has the stock intake manifold the gs-r manifold looks different then the type r . You can also tell by the stamps on the cast of the head where the exhaust manifold is type r head should be stamped p72 and here is a link to see what the manifolds look like http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgur...%3D2%26hl%3Den

Well that made is really easy. I'm 100% positive its the ITR manifold. So thats a good thing.. This might be worth it after all.

Beasty, thankyou.

np, I forgot to mention there is a possibility it could have a b16 head as well because the intake manifolds are simillar looking, also a type r intake manifold will bolt on a b16head but not on the gs-r without any modifications, best thing is ask the guy to take a close up picture of the head with the markings on it then you will know for sure and sorry i missinformed you with the p72 its actually pr3-2 on my 97itr motor P72 is the markings the pistons have on the top. If you look at the head from the front where the exhaust manifold is on the left side the head is stamped with the year so mine has a 97 then i think its month , on the right side it has the pr3-2 stamp find out from the dealer what it is and you'll know it it is a type r head.

The b18c5's have higher compression.

Post pics up and we can tell you for sure.

99 pr3-3 coud be b16 or Type R, also the other dude was wrong about the type r pistons as well, Type R pistons are p73 not p72 (p72=Gs-r) however both Type R and Gs-r have p72 engine blocks (crank, rod and pistons are different). It sounds like maybe they put the Type R head on a b18c1 block. Does the tranny have a VIN? If so does it start out JH4DC231?

your other solution is to pop the valve cover and get the numbers off the cam shafts, check the vtec crossover, what kind of ecu is in there... yeah my bad with the numbers again later on I was thinking it was p73 and was going to change it.

HAH

Dealer isnt going to let me do that. I think I got enough info to know that its a Type-R top end.

K well after trying to find more info on this topic I came across this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-type-r-8/differences-between-pr3-3-head-pr3-4-head-898679/ so after all the pr3-1,2,3,4 markings have nothing to do with it being an itr head it could also be a b16, Like i said the only other way would be to take the valve cover off, or take the intake manifold off and look at the intake ports and see if they are polished like the itr would be as opposed to rough on the b16 but dealer will no let you do that so you're out of luck. someone else mentioned in the thread about green paintbehind the distributor cap on the head, but that could be easily washed off if the motor was previously assembled and cleaned. See what it revs at I guess but that also won't give you a piece of mind that it truly is an itr top end.
